To fix a Quicken account that is not updating, update Quicken, refresh the affected account, then resolve any bank sign-in or authorization error. Follow the steps for your product: Quicken Classic desktop, its mobile companion, or Quicken Simplifi. Sign in to your Quicken ID only through Quicken’s own app or website, sign in to your bank only through its official website or the bank page Quicken opens, and never share a code, password, or remote access with someone who contacts you.
The short version
- Start with a refresh: Install any available Quicken update, then run the account update again.
- Follow the error: Bank outages, rejected credentials, and expired authorization need different fixes.
- Check the register: Filters, sorting, and pending transactions can make a successful download look incomplete.
- Reconnect carefully: Link discovered accounts to existing registers, and do not deactivate accounts for CC-502.

Update Quicken and refresh the account
In Quicken Classic for Windows subscription editions, choose Help > Check for Updates and install the offered update, exiting Quicken when instructed. On Mac, choose Quicken > Check for Updates... > Install Update. If an ad blocker prevents the Mac update from downloading, open Safari > Settings > Extensions, temporarily disable the relevant extension, and retry.
For Windows accounts using Express Web Connect, Express Web Connect+, or Direct Connect, choose Tools > One Step Update, enter the Vault Password if requested, include the affected account, and click Update Now. To refresh just one connected account, open its register, click the upper-right Actions gear icon, and select Update Now. Complete any authentication requests.
On Mac, click Update Accounts above the sidebar or choose Accounts > Update All Online Accounts. Open Window > Connectivity Status to inspect failures. Follow the remedy under Needs Attention, such as Re-Enter Credentials.
Follow the bank error before changing the connection
For Windows error CC-502, check Quicken Community for an alert matching your bank and error. Open the affected register, click the gear icon, and select Update Now. If that fails, retry after a few hours or the next business day. Quicken specifically advises against deactivating and reactivating accounts for CC-502.
With Windows error CC-503, sign in directly at your bank’s website using the expected credentials. Check its messages and security settings for required action or separate credentials for third-party access. In Quicken, select the correct bank listing, including a separate credit-card listing when your bank uses one.
If your Windows connection stores a password in Password Vault, deleting that password removes the saved credential, so you will need to enter the correct one again. Choose Tools > Password Vault > Add/Edit Passwords, select the account, and click Delete Password. Run One Step Update, enter the correct password, check Save, and click Update Now. This procedure applies to stored-password connections, not bank-hosted OAuth authorization.
If Password Vault editing is unavailable or your login ID changed, you can reset the Windows account connection. This resets the account’s connection setup. Choose Tools > Account List, click Edit beside the account, then select Online Services > Reset Account. Enter the correct login ID, complete authentication, and, if prompted, select LINK to associate each discovered account with its existing register.
For an Express Web Connect+ account on Windows, click Reauthorize or Fix It in the update summary and complete the bank’s browser sign-in. On Mac, error FDP-350 calls for Reauthorize and the bank sign-in flow. Retry later if the bank is limiting connection attempts.
For persistent Mac FDP-350, revoking Quicken’s authorization removes its bank-side access until you authorize it again. Sign in at the bank’s website, find its connected-app or third-party-access settings, and revoke Quicken’s authorization. Return to Quicken, add or reactivate the account, complete authorization, and update again. If an account is missing because the bank considers it dormant, contact the bank to reactivate it.
For Mac error FDP 390 or Error 390, click Set Up and authorize the bank’s active listing. Repeat for separate bank listings when prompted, retaining authorization for every account you intend to keep connected.
For Windows error CC-508, sign in at the bank and visit its transaction-download area. Complete outstanding security verification, contact-information requests, messages, or other blocking screens, then retry Quicken. Follow the wording on your bank’s actual screens because the prompts vary.
If CC-508 persists, close Quicken and open Control Panel > Network and Internet > Internet Options. The following deletion removes temporary internet files. Under Browsing history, click Delete, check Temporary Internet Files, then click Delete and OK. Sign in at the bank again, complete its security flow, reopen Quicken, and retry.
Check whether downloaded transactions are hidden
In a Windows register, click Date and Reset above the register to address sorting and filters. Under Actions > Register Columns, check Downloaded Payee to inspect the downloaded name. Choose Tools > Account List, check Show Hidden Accounts, and inspect the affected registers or search All Transactions.
If you find transactions in the wrong Windows account, select those entries in All Transactions and right-click. Choose Move transaction(s), select the correct account, and click OK.
On Mac, open the affected register, click Date to restore date sorting, and click Clear Filters. Retry the download using the upper-left update icon.
For Windows downloads, check the bank for pending transactions or statement-only downloads and wait for posting or statement closure when necessary. Review existing transaction matches as well. Deleted transactions do not automatically download again, so re-enter isolated omissions manually.
If Windows reports transactions to accept, inspect Downloaded Transactions below the register. Alternatively, choose Tools > Online Center, select the bank and account, then open Transactions > Compare to Register and accept outstanding entries. For supported investment accounts, complete Match Securities for unmatched securities in Online Center.
When those reported downloads remain unavailable to accept, press Ctrl + A, click Edit beside the account, and open Online Services > Automatic entry is. Select No, click OK, then OK > Done. Close and reopen Quicken.
Check membership and disabled online services
An expired Quicken Classic subscription disables transaction downloads and mobile sync. At Quicken.com, open My Account and inspect Plan Details; choose Subscriptions > Manage Subscription to manage membership and payment. In an expiration prompt, select Renew or Update Now. Reinstalling alone does not restore these services.
If renewed membership still appears expired on Windows, choose Edit > Preferences > Quicken ID & Cloud Accounts > Sign in as a different user. Type yes and click Sign Out. Close and reopen Quicken, then sign in with the Quicken ID associated with your subscription.
In Windows, open the affected account’s settings and select Online Services. If the account is disconnected, click Set Up now and complete the connection setup. You can also choose Help > Refresh Sign in, sign in again, and rerun One Step Update.
Reconnect online banking after simpler fixes fail
Use reconnection after simpler checks fail or when Quicken Support directs you to it. On Windows, accept outstanding downloads first, use this procedure only for non-loan accounts, and skip it for CC-502.
Deactivation turns off the account’s online banking connection. For every connected Windows account at the affected bank, including hidden accounts, choose Tools > Account List > Edit > Online Services > Deactivate. Click Yes, then OK.
Next, choose Tools > Add Account, select the bank, authenticate, and click Connect. Choose LINK for existing accounts, then Next > Done.
On Mac, disconnecting turns off the online banking connection, and reconnection can produce duplicate transactions. Open each connected register at that bank, including hidden accounts, and choose Settings > Downloads > Disconnect Account > Done. Return to Settings > Downloads > Connect Account..., select the bank, click Continue, and authenticate. Choose LINK to the existing register, click Continue, and review downloaded entries for duplicates.
Import transactions from a supported bank file
If your bank supports Web Connect, you can download a QFX file from its website as an alternative download route. In Windows, export the desired account and date range, then choose File > File Import > Web Connect (.QFX) File... and select the file. Match the import to the existing account; this Windows route requires an active subscription and a bank that supports Web Connect.
On Mac, export QFX or Web Connect transactions from the bank and back up your Quicken file. Choose File > Import > Bank or Brokerage File (OFX, QFX), locate the file, and click Open. Under Choose Your Accounts, select the matching existing account and inspect the imported transactions for duplicates.
Refresh the Classic mobile or web companion
When the desktop is current but the mobile companion is stale, sync from the desktop first. In Windows, choose Mobile & Web > Sync Now; on Mac, choose Accounts > Sync to Mobile. Sign in to mobile with the desktop’s Quicken ID and select the matching data file.
In the Classic mobile companion for iOS or Android, tap Menu > Settings > Refresh Data > Continue, then tap Done when it finishes. For an account-specific error, swipe left on that account, tap Fix It, and complete the repair flow. If the problem remains limited to mobile, install any available companion-app update from the App Store or Google Play, then sign out and back in.
For a missing account in Quicken on the Web, open Mobile & Web on the Windows desktop, enable Sync, and choose Settings > Account Settings. Select the checkbox bearing the account’s name and click Sync Now. Sign in to Quicken on the Web, select the matching data file, and use its sync icon. Sync before and after desktop and web sessions.
Refresh Quicken Simplifi separately
In Simplifi on the web, click Refresh at the lower left, or open an account and click Updated at the upper left. To adjust refresh frequency, open Settings > Accounts, click the bank’s three-dot menu, and choose Manage updates. Under Set Max Update Interval, choose Always or Daily, then click Save Updates. The frequency applies to the entire financial institution.
On Simplifi mobile, tap the upper-right Refresh icon on the Dashboard or pull down on the Dashboard. To change frequency, tap Menu > Settings > Accounts, open the bank’s three-dot menu, and select Manage Updates. Under Set Max Update Interval, select Always or Daily, then tap Save Updates.
Get help for a persistent connection error
If CC-502 persists after retrying, contact Quicken Support through Quicken’s official website. For persistent Windows error CC-569, choose Help > Report a problem, select Bank download/Transaction Errors, and click Send to Quicken. Then contact Quicken Support; sending the report alone does not complete that support process. For other unresolved errors, use your product’s official help or support page for the next step.
Mac Direct Connect errors 2004, 2007, or 2010 indicating Account Closed require the bank’s help. Verify that the intended account is still open, then contact the bank’s online-banking support to correct its server-side status. Open the Mac account’s Settings and select List beside the financial institution to find contact information.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can you make Quicken Classic update automatically on Windows?
For startup updates, choose Edit > Preferences > Startup, select Download transactions when Quicken starts, and click OK. For scheduled updates, choose Tools > Schedule Updates, select Enable Scheduled Updates, choose the time, frequency, and account entries, then click OK. These options apply to accounts eligible for One Step Update.
Why does Quicken keep asking you to authorize the same bank?
After a Windows bank connection migration, hidden or closed accounts can still have obsolete connections. Another data file authorizing the same migrated accounts can also invalidate the original file’s authorization. Inspect Tools > Manage Hidden Accounts and check whether another data file is connecting to those accounts.
Why does Quicken on the Web show a different balance after syncing?
Your web view may be using a different balance definition from the desktop comparison. Open the balance-options control above the accounts bar and select Today’s Balance, Online Balance, or Projected Balance to match the balance you are comparing.
What should you do when a bank transaction file is empty or invalid?
Confirm that the export is QFX and that the bank still supports Quicken Web Connect. Contact the bank to correct an empty file or one that omits transactions. QIF is not a Web Connect substitute, and Quicken does not support QFX files generated by third-party conversion software.
