To export your LastPass passwords, open the desktop browser extension and select Account > Fix a problem yourself > Export vault items > Export data for use anywhere, then authenticate to download a CSV. You can also export through the LastPass website on a computer. The CSV exposes your credentials in plain text and excludes some vault content, including attachments.
The short version
- Main method: Use the desktop browser extension to export your vault as a CSV.
- Website alternative: Export through Advanced Options in the desktop web vault and complete email verification.
- Missing content: CSV exports exclude attachments, vault-generated TOTP codes, custom item types, and custom fields.
- Direct transfers: Supported destination apps can import from LastPass without an intermediate CSV.
- File safety: Your CSV contains readable credentials, so protect it during the transfer.

Prepare your apps and vault content
Start on a computer with the LastPass browser extension installed, or use the desktop website route below. If you need the extension, open the official LastPass download page, choose your browser and operating system, and follow the installation link. Sign in only through LastPass’s own app or website, and never share a code, password, or remote access with someone who contacts you.
Choose the CSV route when you need a standalone export file. If you are moving into a password manager you already use, its direct importer may offer another route. The CSV excludes attachments, vault-generated time-based one-time password (TOTP) codes, custom item types, and custom fields, so account for those items separately.
If you need 1Password for direct migration, choose its Mac, Windows, or Linux desktop app from its official download page. For Bitwarden, choose a desktop app or browser extension from its official download page. Both provide the direct import routes described below.
For NordPass, use its official download selector to choose the appropriate product, then check that your installed interface offers the LastPass automatic importer. For Keeper, choose the desktop application for your operating system from its official download page. These transfer options move data into the destination app rather than producing a standalone LastPass backup file.
Export through the LastPass browser extension
Sign in to the LastPass browser extension and complete multifactor authentication if prompted. Select the LastPass toolbar icon, then select Account > Fix a problem yourself > Export vault items > Export data for use anywhere.
Enter your master password if requested. Optionally, select Do not re-prompt for and choose a time interval, then select Continue. The CSV downloads to your computer; if you see a page of export text instead, follow the text-saving steps below.
On LastPass for Safari on Mac, the export opens in another tab. Right-click that tab and select Save Page As.... Specify a filename and location, then select Save.
Export from the LastPass website
Sign in to the LastPass website on a computer and select Advanced Options > Export. Open the verification email and select Continue export. Return to the vault after completing that verification.
Select Advanced Options > Export again, supply the requested LastPass credentials, and select Submit. Save the downloaded CSV. You need to select Export a second time after using the email link.
This route applies to the desktop web vault displaying Advanced Options. If that menu is missing, use the browser extension route above. LastPass also identifies website export as an alternative when an extension export produces a blank CSV.
Save an export that appears as text
If a desktop website or extension export displays CSV text in your browser, select and copy all the displayed data. Open a plain-text editor; in TextEdit, first select Format > Make Plain Text. Paste the copied data and save the file as export.csv. Before importing, check passwords that contain special characters such as &: some users report that a displayed export changes these characters to HTML-encoded values such as &. Use your text editor's find and replace to correct any altered values.
This saves the browser-displayed output as a CSV file. It still contains credentials in plain text, so protect it just as you would a downloaded export.
Resolve an export blocked by organization policy
If your managed LastPass account blocks export, ask your organization's LastPass administrator to review the Prohibit Export policy. LastPass says an administrator can temporarily disable that policy or exclude your user account to permit export. Once your administrator permits it, perform the normal vault export.
This applies to managed accounts, including Teams and Business accounts. The policy change enables you to export your own vault; it is not an Admin Console procedure for exporting everyone's vault. If the restriction remains, use LastPass's official help with your administrator.
Download your attachments separately
Sign in through the LastPass browser extension, desktop app, or mobile app. Open the vault item's Edit window, then open its attachment before saving it to your device. Repeat the process for each attachment you need to keep.
A website-only session cannot open attachments, so use one of those apps or the extension for this step. Bitwarden's direct import also requires separate attachment handling. If you are using 1Password's direct import, that route supports attachments.
Transfer directly into your destination app
Use the matching instructions below if you already have a destination password manager that supports direct LastPass imports. These routes avoid an intermediate CSV, but their content coverage and authentication requirements differ.
For 1Password, open and unlock the desktop app on Mac, Windows, or Linux. On Mac, select File > Import > LastPass; on Windows or Linux, open the ellipsis menu and select Import > LastPass. Enter your LastPass account details, choose the destination 1Password account, select Next, then select Import.
If you use single sign-on (SSO) or certain multifactor authentication methods, your 1Password transfer requires preparation. Use 1Password's official help for the applicable authentication steps before continuing. If authentication prevents the transfer, consult that help for your sign-in method.
For Bitwarden, sign in to its browser extension or desktop app. In the extension, select Settings > Vault > Import items; in the desktop app, select Import. Choose the destination, set File format to LastPass, then select Import directly from LastPass.
Enter your LastPass email and select Import data. Authenticate with your LastPass master password or identity provider and complete multifactor authentication. If you use SSO, consult Bitwarden's official help and your administrator for its additional restrictions and required setup.
In a NordPass interface offering the LastPass automatic importer, open the cogwheel for Settings. Locate Import, select Import items, then select LastPass. Enter your LastPass credentials and choose the passwords to transfer. If your interface lacks that importer, use the LastPass CSV export to obtain a standalone file and consult NordPass's official help for transfer options.
In the Keeper Desktop App, open Account > Settings > Import > LastPass to start automated migration. Follow the app's prompts, and use Keeper's official help if you cannot complete the transfer.
Check the transfer and protect your export
Protect your CSV while completing the transfer because its credentials are readable in plain text. Check the transferred data before cleaning up temporary export files. Include attachments in that check, and remember the content excluded from the CSV.
Deleting a temporary CSV removes that exported copy, so check the transfer and retain any export you still need before deleting it. After that check, delete temporary CSV copies you no longer need. For export or authentication problems that these steps cannot resolve, use LastPass's official help.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I export if my LastPass Free account is set to Mobile?
Yes, LastPass says you can export through the desktop website without switching your active device type. You do not need to buy a subscription merely to export.
Does 1Password transfer LastPass one-time passwords and passkeys?
1Password's direct migration supports item-associated one-time passwords. It excludes passkeys and LastPass Authenticator codes, so those do not move through that transfer.
What permission do I need to import shared folders into 1Password?
You need administrator privileges in the LastPass shared folders you want to import. Check your privileges for those folders before starting the direct transfer. If you are importing into a 1Password Teams or Business account, you also need permission to create vaults.
Why do older export instructions show Account Options?
The Account Options label belongs to an older LastPass extension interface. In the current extension, begin with Account and select Fix a problem yourself to reach the export options.
