Fix Coinbase ID verification errors by matching your account details to an accepted, unexpired ID, taking clear document and face photos, and allowing camera access. If the upload freezes or the session expires, restart verification from your Coinbase account.

Sign in only through Coinbase’s own app or website, and never share a code, password, or remote access with someone who contacts you. Start from your current account prompt, since the documents and additional checks you need depend on your country and account.

The short version

  • Rejected document: Use an accepted, unexpired ID and make sure your account details match it.
  • Unclear photos: Capture the whole ID without glare and follow the face photo requirements.
  • Camera trouble: Allow camera access for the app or browser handling verification.
  • Failed session: Restart from Coinbase and wait at least 30 minutes between attempts, or longer if your account requires it.

Check service incidents before retrying

Open Coinbase Status and inspect ID verification, User Proofing, Proof of Address, and website or app incidents. If an incident affects verification, follow its updates before retrying.

Wait at least 30 minutes between verification attempts, and obey a longer cooldown if your account displays one. After a successful submission, wait for the review-status notification instead of starting another capture.

Check your ID and retake unclear photos

Sign in to Coinbase and select Verify your info to begin the requested upload. Use coinbase.com or Coinbase’s verification host, identification.coinbase.com. Check the accepted-document table for your signup country and choose a listed, unexpired ID.

Accepted documents vary by country, so check the requirements for your account before choosing an ID. Temporary IDs and UK eVisas are excluded. The current US document table includes passports.

Retake the ID photo with the entire document visible and its text readable. Place it against a plain background in indirect daylight, keeping glare off the surface. When using a webcam, keep the document flat and reposition the camera to improve the image.

When Coinbase requests a selfie, face the camera with your head and shoulders visible. Avoid backlighting, hats, and sunglasses. Wear glasses if your ID photograph shows you wearing them.

Make your personal information match

Open your profile icon, then select Manage account > Personal info > Edit. Match your legal name, birth date, and address to your ID, including middle or former names as required. Select Save after correcting the details.

For a residential address change within the same country, open your Profile page and select Primary Address. Enter your new address and select Update. If your account is restricted after the change, contact Coinbase Support.

A name or country change triggers additional verification. Country changes use a separate desktop-browser process, so contact Coinbase Support if the country on your account needs correcting and you cannot complete that process.

Allow camera access on your phone

Close other apps or calls that are using the camera, then reopen the browser and rescan the fresh QR code if you are using a phone handoff. Restart the phone if necessary, or begin verification directly on mobile. During a Coinbase Support call, use another device for the verification photos.

On iPhone, open Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and enable access for Coinbase or the verification browser when listed. Apps appear in this list after requesting camera access.

On Google Pixel, open Settings > Apps > See all apps, select Coinbase or your verification browser, then open Permissions > Camera. Select Allow only while using the app. Other Android manufacturers may use different menu paths.

On Android 12 and later devices with camera privacy controls, swipe down twice to open Quick Settings and enable camera access through the camera tile. If the tile is missing, select Edit or Add to add it. Check this device-wide control as well as the app permission.

Allow camera access on your computer

In desktop Chrome, open More > Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Camera. Open the blocked Coinbase verification site’s entry and select Allow, making sure it is the hostname handling your verification. If you have multiple webcams, use the camera dropdown on that screen to select the working one. For a fresh permission prompt, select Allow while visiting the site.

The Windows steps here use Windows 11 menus. Open Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Camera, turn on Camera access, then turn on Let desktop apps access your camera for your browser. For a Store app, also turn on Let apps access your camera and the app’s individual toggle.

On a Windows laptop or external webcam with a privacy shutter or physical camera switch, open the shutter or enable the switch. If your device has a camera keyboard key, enable the camera with that key; some devices require Fn as part of the combination. Reconnect an external USB camera if necessary.

If the camera also fails outside Coinbase on Windows 11, open Start > Camera to check capture. Then open Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Camera and select Run. For updates, open Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates, then inspect Advanced options > Optional updates for camera drivers.

On a Mac using System Settings, open the Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and enable your verification browser when listed. For Safari, also open Safari > Settings > Websites > Camera and permit the verification website.

If Camera access is disabled and cannot be changed on a managed Windows device, ask the device administrator to enable it. If managed Chrome prevents camera-permission changes, contact the browser or network administrator.

Restart an expired session or failed QR handoff

Close the failed verification tab and restart from Coinbase or the product that launched verification. Avoid repeated refreshes and reused links, emails, bookmarks, or QR codes. For an account-recovery handoff, restart from the recovery flow that sent you to verification.

When your desktop session offers a phone handoff, scan its fresh QR code, open the banner on your phone, and complete the capture. Return to the original device afterward. If the code will not scan, increase screen brightness, clean the screen and camera lens, and adjust the scanning distance. Try the phone’s default camera, then a trusted QR scanner.

For a QR code that scans but will not open, check your phone’s connection and confirm the link uses a Coinbase hostname. Open the mobile browser manually and rescan the fresh code. Temporarily disable an interfering content blocker, or begin verification directly on mobile if the handoff continues to fail.

Fix an app or browser that stalls

Force-close the Coinbase mobile app using your device’s app controls, then reopen it. On a supported iPhone or Android device, install the current Coinbase version through your device’s app store and install available operating-system updates through device settings. Wait for the retry cooldown before submitting again.

Try Coinbase.com in a mobile browser or use another desktop browser. Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, and restart the device if necessary. If scaling hides a verification button on mobile, reduce device zoom or font size in accessibility settings and reopen the affected screen.

Clearing the app cache removes cached app data. In phone settings, open the Coinbase app settings and enable Clear cache on next launch, if available, then reopen Coinbase. The parent menu and availability of this control vary by operating system and build.

If that cache control is absent, Coinbase recommends reinstalling the app. Uninstalling removes the Coinbase app from your device; before device troubleshooting, preserve recovery phrases for any self-custodial wallets affected. Remove Coinbase and reinstall it through its official app-store listing.

For a fresh desktop Chrome session, open More > New Incognito window, sign in, and start verification again. Alternatively, press Ctrl + Shift + N on Windows, Linux, or ChromeOS, or Command + Shift + N on Mac.

In desktop Chrome, open More > Extensions > Manage extensions, switch off an interfering extension, and retry. Coinbase also recommends temporarily pausing interfering VPNs, ad blockers, or security software when troubleshooting account access.

Deleting browsing data removes the cookies and cached files you select for the chosen time range. In desktop Chrome, open More > Delete browsing data and choose a time range. Select Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files, then select Delete data. Start a fresh Coinbase session afterward.

Complete the regional checks your account requests

For a foreign-issued ID, check the regional document requirements that apply to your location. In the EU/EEA and other locations covered by Coinbase’s regional guidance, a requested proof of address may be a bank statement, credit-card statement, or utility bill issued within three months, where supported. Follow the country-specific language requirements as well.

If Coinbase requests additional proof of residence for your nationality and residency circumstances, open the Coinbase in-app notification and follow its secure upload instructions. Supply an accepted residence document for your circumstances. Onboarding applicants supply the requested documents during signup.

For Singapore verification, use the latest Singpass app, open Coinbase’s Document verification page, and select Yes, verify with singpass. On desktop, scan the QR code with Singpass; in the mobile flow, tap the code. Alternatively, select Password login.

Choose the verification method, review the requested information, and select I Agree. After returning to Coinbase, select Confirm, supply the additional identity information, and select Let’s go.

Contact Coinbase when verification still fails

If fresh attempts and cooldowns do not resolve the error, open Coinbase Support and use the chat or callback options at the bottom of the page. The options and controls may depend on your sign-in status and region. Provide the exact error and have clear documents ready for secure upload.

If you cannot complete a requested regional or residence check, or your account is restricted after a residential address change, contact Coinbase Support for help with your account.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if you cannot reach verification because you lost access to email or two-step verification?

Open Coinbase’s account-access help page and select Go to account recovery. Complete the identity-verification flow to reset the unavailable email address or two-step verification method. This recovery process is separate from ordinary signup verification.

Why is Coinbase asking you to confirm information after you uploaded an ID?

A personal-information confirmation can be separate from the ID upload. For a genuine request, select Confirm your info, sign in, and review your details. Select Yes, looks good if they are accurate, or select Edit to correct them, then complete any additional verification requested.

What should you do if the device confirmation email keeps looping?

Open the verification email in a full desktop browser, using the same Wi-Fi network and browser tab where sign-in began. Clearing cookies and cache removes that browser data; clear them and disable interfering extensions. If necessary, request a new verification email and retry in a fresh window. This check is separate from photo-ID approval.

What if a security key or passkey prevents you from signing in?

For a registered security key, reconnect USB, enable NFC and tap when prompted, or pair Bluetooth as appropriate. For a passkey, use its original or synced device and browser, and enable the device unlock method. Use a backup sign-in method if the key is unavailable. These steps address sign-in access and do not replace identity verification.

Should you follow an older Coinbase Pro verification tutorial?

Use the current Coinbase account prompt and accepted-document table. Coinbase Advanced replaced Coinbase Pro, and older Pro instructions describe a historical verification flow.

Can you contact Coinbase Support by mail?

You can mail written questions to Coinbase, Inc., 228 Park Ave S #23008, New York, NY 10003. Coinbase lists this as a support channel; use the secure upload instructions for verification documents.
