Recover your TurboTax account through Intuit’s official account recovery page by resetting your password, verifying your identity, or submitting a recovery request if you cannot access your registered email or phone. Start with the sign-in options you can still use, then contact official support if you need help completing recovery. The steps below cover US accounts first, with separate instructions for Canada.
Sign in only through Intuit’s own app or website, and never share a code, password, or remote access with someone who contacts you. Intuit says its support specialists cannot update or modify your account information for you.

Start with the official password reset
Open the official TurboTax account recovery page and follow its sign-in link. Enter your phone number, email address, or user ID. Select Enter password, then select Forgot password?.
Follow the verification prompts offered for your account. Enter the code received by email, text message, or telephone call, then reset your password or finish signing in as directed. The available verification routes depend on your account.
If you cannot remember the email, phone number, or user ID associated with the account, select Try something else. Answer the identity questions, which can include your surname, birth date, Social Security number, and ZIP code. Continue through the password, passkey, verification-code, or additional identity-verification option offered afterward.
Fix missing codes and temporary lockouts
Check your spam folder and any other email accounts you may have registered with Intuit when an email code does not arrive. On the sign-in page, select I didn’t get an email, select I didn’t get a text, or select I didn’t get a phone call to match your delivery method. Follow the prompts to request another verification message.
For missing texts, allow messages from the short codes 88811 and 97962. If your carrier provides access to text messages through its website, you can retrieve the verification text there. Otherwise, continue with another verification route offered by Intuit.
Use only the newest verification code when browser recovery rejects a code. Keep the recovery window open and check your email in another tab, because closing that window invalidates its code. If you exceeded the sign-in-attempt limit, wait 15 minutes before trying again.
Use another offered way to verify your identity
If you already registered a passkey and can still access it, open Intuit sign-in for the associated account. Complete the passkey prompt using your device’s screen lock or biometrics to sign in without the forgotten password. An unrecognized device or account may require additional verification first.
If you previously linked an authenticator app and Intuit requests authenticator verification, enter its current code along with your password. This can complete authentication without receiving a text message, but it does not replace a forgotten password. Use the authenticator already configured for that account.
At the password screen, select Forgot password? to reach the alternative identity checks offered for your account. When Intuit offers verification with a different mobile number, follow that route. When it offers physical-ID verification, follow the prompts to photograph your driver’s license or state ID.
In the TurboTax app, you can also verify your identity with a supported ID stored in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet when Intuit offers that option. Select Forgot password?, then follow the offered wallet-ID prompts. If the available sign-in checks do not restore access, continue with an account recovery request.
Submit an account recovery request
Return to the official TurboTax recovery page and select Recover my account when you cannot complete sign-in, especially if your registered email and phone are inaccessible. Complete the required account details and upload a valid government-issued photo ID. Accepted documents for the US request include a driver’s license, state-issued ID, or passport.
Answer the recovery questions, then scan the supplied QR code with your phone to photograph your ID. Follow the recovery email from [email protected]. If your request is approved, the email provides a password-reset link you can use to regain access.
If your request was declined because of the document or photograph, resubmit it with an unexpired accepted ID. Remove the ID from its sleeve and photograph it separately against a dark background. Make sure every detail is legible before submitting the new photograph.
Get help from official TurboTax support
Open the official TurboTax contact page for the support phone number and current availability. Calling support does not require account access and is an option for US TurboTax Online, Mobile, and Desktop customers. Explain the account-access problem and the recovery step you could not complete so support can guide you through the process.
If you can still sign in to TurboTax Online or Mobile, select Help or Expert help, then type Talk to a specialist. Follow the callback prompts to request assistance. This route requires a signed-in session, so use the phone contact route when you are completely locked out.
Fix sign in trouble after a password reset
If sign-in still fails after a password reset, remove stale saved TurboTax credentials from your browser, password manager, or system settings. Enter your new password when signing in again. For continued browser sign-in failures, clear the browser’s cache and cookies, then restart the browser.
In the TurboTax mobile app, close and reopen the app after the password reset. Contact official TurboTax support if these steps do not resolve the remaining sign-in problem.
Update your recovery contact details
Once you have access again, open accounts.intuit.com and sign in. Select Sign in & security to manage your user ID, password, email address, or phone number. You can also do this before recovery if you still have working authentication or an accessible session.
To replace an outdated email address, select Email address. Enter the replacement address, repeat it, then select Save. These account settings require access and do not bypass a locked account.
Recover a Canadian TurboTax account
For a Canadian account, open TurboTax Canada account recovery and follow the Intuit account recovery link. Enter your phone number, email address, or user ID, then select Continue. Enter the received code, select your account, and create a password or select Skip when offered.
To use another authentication route, select Sign in a different way. Available routes include a password, text message, email, or identity questions such as your birth date and Social Insurance number. Follow the route offered for your Canadian account.
If you cannot access your registered email or phone, return to the Canadian recovery page and select Recover my account. Complete the form with clear identification photographs, such as a driver’s license or provincial ID. Intuit recommends using a phone to photograph both sides.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you need a different recovery process for an older tax year?
US TurboTax recovery applies to your Intuit account rather than a particular tax-year edition. Use the account recovery process for the account you need to access.
Can you use a passkey after replacing your device?
A synchronized passkey may be accessible on a replacement device through the same operating-system ecosystem or password manager. You need a previously registered passkey that remains accessible.
Can you submit a military ID or Social Security card for US recovery?
Intuit does not accept military IDs or Social Security cards for this recovery request. Submit an accepted government-issued photo ID instead.
Why does a specialist callback prompt you to add PLUS?
If you use TurboTax Free Edition without PLUS, you will be prompted to add PLUS benefits for the specialist callback service. That requirement applies to the callback route inside TurboTax.
