To record a presentation in Canva on a computer, open your presentation, select Present > Present and record, enter the recording studio, and select Start recording. Choose your microphone and camera before starting, then select End recording when you finish presenting. This feature works on computers, excludes mobile, and is temporarily unavailable in India.

Set up and record your complete presentation
Open your presentation and select Present > Present and record. If you need to open the sharing menu first, select Share, then find Present and record. Choose Next > Go to recording studio.
Grant access to your microphone and camera, then choose your devices. Select Start recording and deliver the presentation. When you finish, select End recording and wait for the upload to complete.
Select Copy link to share the result, Download to keep a copy, or Save and exit to leave the studio. Canva doesn’t support exporting long recordings yet, so share a link to those instead. To retrieve the recording later, open the presentation and select Share > Present and record. You can access its download and link options there.
Add an editable recording to a slide
Use the editor recorder to add presenter footage as an editable element on the current slide. In Canva’s editor in Google Chrome or Safari, select Uploads > Record yourself > Record a talking head. These editor recording modes support presentations and are unavailable in India.
For webcam footage, configure microphone and camera access, then choose Camera. Select Record, deliver your commentary, and choose Done > Save and exit. Your recording becomes an editable element on the current page and is saved under Uploads > Videos.
Choose Camera & Screen to capture yourself alongside screen content, then configure your recording devices. For narration over screen content without webcam footage, choose Screen and configure the microphone and screen, window, or browser tab to capture. In either mode, select Record, present your material, then choose Done > Save and exit.
Record a separate voiceover
Open a blank video design using Canva’s new video timeline. Select Audio > Voiceovers > Record voiceover, or select Uploads > Record yourself > Record voiceover. Canva supports this voice recording workflow on desktop and mobile.
Choose your microphone using the microphone or gear control, select Record, and speak your narration. Select Finish, then copy and paste the resulting audio into your presentation. Use this blank video route when your original design lacks the voiceover recording option.
You can also extract narration from a webcam recording in a design that supports audio. From Videos, select Record Yourself and record your commentary. Back in the editor, select the video, then choose Audio tools > Extract audio.
Deleting the video removes the video element from your design. Keep the extracted audio track and delete the video only if you no longer need the footage.
To import narration or footage recorded elsewhere, open your presentation and select Uploads > Upload files. Choose the audio or video file, then select the uploaded item to insert it into your design. On a computer, you can also drag files into Uploads.
Generate narration from a script
Canva AI Voice creates synthetic narration from text. On supported desktop or mobile surfaces, open your design and select Elements > Audio > Generate AI Voice, or Apps > AI Voice. You can also select the pencil icon in the Magic Write floating toolbar, then choose Generate AI Voice.
Enter your script and choose a language and voice under Select Voice. Select Generate AI voice, then adjust the resulting audio track’s timing. AI availability and usage limits apply.
Murf AI offers another text narration option on desktop, requiring a Murf account and a paid Murf plan to add generated audio to a design, independently of your Canva subscription. In the editor, select Apps, search for Murf AI, select it, then select Connect and sign in to Murf. Alternatively, start from Canva’s homepage and select More > Apps > Murf AI > Use in existing design.
Choose a language and voice, enter your script in Enter your text, then select Choose style. Select Generate voiceover, followed by Add to design.
Use Canva’s desktop Screen Recorder
Canva’s dedicated Screen Recorder runs in its Windows and Mac desktop apps, not its browser or mobile app, and it is currently unavailable in India. Get Canva for Windows or Canva for Mac if you need the desktop app. Recording requires screen recording permission, a microphone, and an internet connection, with a limit of 25 minutes and 1GB per recording.
From the app’s home screen, select Create > For you. Under Quick actions, select Screen Recorder, choose the screen and recording preferences, then select Record. Present your slides and select Finish.
You can also select File > New Screen Recording and choose the screen and recording preferences. Select Start recording, deliver your presentation, then select Finish.
To start from the system bar on Windows or Mac, access Canva’s control while the app is running and select New recording…. Within a supported design, select Uploads > Record Yourself instead, then choose the desktop screen recorder option. For either route, choose your recording preferences, select Start recording, present, then select Finish.
Record on your phone or tablet
On iPhone or iPad, open Control Center and tap Record. For spoken narration on iPhone, touch and hold Screen Recording, turn on Microphone, then tap Start Recording instead. Wait for the countdown, return to Canva, and deliver your presentation.
To finish, tap the Screen Recording control at the top and then Stop, or tap the red Record button in Control Center. Your video appears in Photos.
On Android devices with Google’s screen recording controls, swipe down twice and select Screen record. If it is missing, select Edit and add Screen record to Quick Settings. Choose the capture target and audio options, tap Start, then present in Canva.
To stop, swipe down and tap the Screen recorder notification. Some instructions require Android 11 or later, and manufacturer labels and recording capabilities can differ.
Capture the presentation with your computer
On Windows 11 with the video-capable Snipping Tool, display your Canva presentation and open Snipping Tool. Select Record > New, or press Windows + Shift + R, then select the presentation’s screen area and choose Start. Deliver the presentation, select Stop, and save the recording or select Edit in Clipchamp.
For Xbox Game Bar on Windows 11 or Windows 10, focus the Canva app or browser presentation and press Windows + Alt + R to begin recording. Press Windows + Alt + M to toggle microphone capture, then deliver your presentation. Press Windows + Alt + R again to stop and find the MP4 under Videos > Captures. Press Windows + G to open the recording controls.
On a Mac, display the presentation and press Shift + Command + 5. Choose Record Entire Screen or Record Selected Portion, then open Options and choose a microphone. Select Record, present your slides, and finish with the menu bar’s Stop button or Command + Control + Esc.
You can also open QuickTime Player and select File > New Screen Recording, or press Control + Command + N. On current macOS, this opens Screenshot controls, where you choose the capture area and microphone, then select Record. Present in Canva and stop from the menu bar or with Command + Control + Esc.
On a Chromebook, press Shift + Ctrl + Show windows and select Screen record. You can also open the capture controls with the screenshot key or through the time menu > Screen capture. Choose Record the full screen, Record a partial screen, or Record a window.
Under Settings, select Microphone or Device audio and microphone, and enable Front camera if wanted. Select the screen or window to begin, then deliver your presentation. Finish with Stop recording or Search + Shift + X. Recordings normally save to Downloads.
Download slides with narration as a video
After adding recorded or generated narration or video, select Share > Download. Choose MP4 Video, then select All for the complete presentation, This Page for the current page, or Custom for a selection. Select Download.
This export renders your prepared presentation, including its timed pages, audio, or video; it does not capture a live delivery. If you use Canva Free, retain the default quality to avoid the upgrade prompt for changing quality. For a recording made through Present and record, use that recording’s download option.
Fix recording permissions and device problems
In desktop Chrome, select Allow while visiting the site at a fresh camera or microphone permission prompt. If you previously blocked access, open More > Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings. Under Permissions, open Camera or Microphone, find Canva among blocked sites, and change its permission to Allow. Contact your administrator if a managed work or school browser controls the setting.
On Windows 11, open Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone. Turn on Microphone access and Let apps access your microphone, then enable the relevant app where listed. For desktop applications, turn on Let desktop apps access your microphone.
For an application using screen capture on current macOS, open Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording. Enable recording for Canva or the browser you are using to capture the presentation.
To check your devices on a supported Canva recording surface, open Canva’s diagnostic page and select Allow access. If prompted, select Allow, choose your camera and microphone, then select Start testing. If input fails, check cable connections, physical microphone mute switches, input volume, and whether another application is occupying the camera.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you keep multiple talking presentation recordings in one design?
Canva supports only one talking presentation recording per design. Deleting it removes the saved take, so select Download first if you want to keep a copy. To remove the saved recording, select Delete recording.
Does Canva automatically create a public recording link?
Canva automatically creates a public viewing link for a talking presentation recording. Deleting that link and deleting the recording are separate actions.
Can you use the editor recorder in print templates?
Canva excludes print templates and Canva Button partner-site designs from editor video recording. Use a supported design type, such as a presentation, for this recording workflow.
Which designs do not support direct voiceover recording?
Docs, Sheets, Whiteboards, and Websites do not support the direct voiceover workflow. Canva’s separate voiceover workflow uses the new video timeline.
Can you upload any externally recorded file?
Uploads must use a supported audio or video file format. Your account’s available storage also applies when you import recordings.
