Your Samsung TV keeps announcing menu selections and volume changes. Turning off Voice Guide stops those announcements, and the remote shortcut is the quickest place to start. If you're hearing scene descriptions or captions read aloud, use the separate audio controls below.
Turn off Voice Guide with your remote
On a compatible Samsung Smart Remote, press and hold the +/- (Volume) button for at least two seconds to open Accessibility Shortcuts. Select Voice Guide and set it to Off.
Have a compatible remote with a dedicated Mute button? Press and hold it to open Accessibility Shortcuts. Select Voice Guide and turn it off.
For compatible regional remotes with an AD/SUBT. button, use that button to access Accessibility Shortcuts. Select Voice Guide and turn it off.
The shortcut menu itself still speaks when Voice Guide is off or muted. Hearing guidance inside Accessibility Shortcuts does not mean the change failed.
Find Voice Guide in the TV settings
Use the settings menu if your remote doesn't offer an accessibility shortcut. The path depends on your TV's model, region, and software.
Open Home > Menu > Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Accessibility > Voice Guide Settings.
Set Voice Guide to Off.
For TVs with the General layout, open Home > Settings > General > Accessibility > Voice Guide Settings > Voice Guide.
Turn Voice Guide off.
Use your phone through SmartThings
For a compatible TV already paired with SmartThings, its phone remote controls the TV's own settings; a Samsung Account and internet connection are required.
- 1.Open SmartThings > Menu > All devices and select your TV. In the newer mobile-remote interface, open SmartThings > Devices and select the TV's card instead.
- 2.In the newer interface, tap the Remote control (or Mobile Remote) icon at the bottom right and expand the remote.
- 3.Use the on-screen Home button and directional controls to navigate the TV menu.
- 4.Open Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Accessibility > Voice Guide Settings on the TV.
- 5.Set Voice Guide to Off.
Ask Bixby to open Settings
On a Bixby-compatible Samsung TV with Bixby configured, a voice command opens settings. This requires a Samsung Account and internet access.
Press and hold the remote's Microphone button while saying “Navigate to the Settings page,” then release it.
Open All Settings > General & Privacy > Accessibility > Voice Guide Settings.
Set Voice Guide to Off manually.
If Bixby doesn't open settings, use the remote's Volume shortcut or the manual settings path above.
Stop a voice that describes scenes
Turning off Audio Description stops scene narration on supported broadcasts, separate from menu announcements.
Open Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Accessibility > Audio Description Settings.
Disable Audio Description.
On layouts with the control listed directly, open Home > Menu > Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Accessibility > Audio description instead.
Turn Audio description off.
Silence captions read aloud
If your TV reads captions aloud, check Audio Subtitles, Samsung's separate AI caption-reading feature available on supported models and regions. Turning off Voice Guide doesn't disable it.
Open Home > Menu > Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Accessibility > Audio Subtitles.
Switch Audio Subtitles off.
To reach the same control through the remote shortcut, hold the Volume button to open Accessibility Shortcuts.
Select Audio Subtitles.
Turn the feature off.
Remove descriptive audio in Netflix
Start the Netflix show or movie that has scene narration.
Press Up or Down on your remote to bring up the playback options.
Select Audio & Subtitles.
On interfaces that show language choices directly, select Other if you need additional options.
Choose an audio track without Audio Description in its name.
This changes Netflix playback audio; for narration from another app or an external TV box, check that source's own audio settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I uninstall Voice Guide from my Samsung TV?
Samsung's official support guides describe turning Voice Guide off, not uninstalling it. Turn it off using its accessibility setting.
Does the SmartThings phone remote work on both Android and iPhone?
Yes. Samsung documents its newer SmartThings mobile remote for Android and iOS. Available controls depend on the TV, region, and SmartThings version.
Is Voice Guide the same as Bixby?
No. Voice Guide reads the TV's menus and controls aloud. Bixby is a voice assistant with separate voice responses.
Where can I get SmartThings for the phone remote?
Use Samsung's official SmartThings app page at https://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/smartthings.html. Installing an app is optional; the TV's own remote can turn off Voice Guide.
