Somewhere in the middle of a French YouTube video, I noticed I'd stopped reading the subtitles. The Rokid AI Glasses Style were translating it into my ears as it played, in a relaxed, friendly voice that sounded more like an assistant than a machine, and it kept up. I switched to a Japanese video, and it kept up there too. That moment says more about these glasses than any spec sheet: they do what Rokid promises, and they make it feel easy.

I've been wearing the Style as my everyday pair for about a week and a half, in jet black with dark gray lenses, the version without a display. The audio, the camera, the translation and the AI assistant all impressed me, and at 38.5 g for the frame, they're light enough to forget you have them on. Two things keep them from a perfect score. Getting through the first update and onto Wi-Fi took a few tries, and the battery drains faster than Rokid's numbers suggest, so you'll be charging more often than you'd like.

The AI Glasses Style is Rokid's take on AI glasses without a screen. Everything reaches you through open-ear speakers and the Hi Rokid app: a 12MP Sony camera for photos and up to 3K video, ChatGPT and Gemini on voice command, real-time translation, navigation, calls and music. The frame is TR90 with titanium alloy hinges, weighs 38.5 g before lenses, and takes prescription lenses from -15.00 to +15.00. It lists for $399, Rokid had it on sale for $329 at the time of writing, and Amazon sells it as a Style Pack that adds the Power Capsule.

Who it's for

Anyone who wants a camera, music, calls and a capable AI assistant in a pair of glasses that looks like normal eyewear. Travelers and language learners will get a lot out of the translation. Creators, parents and pet owners get a POV camera that's always ready, and commuters, walkers and cyclists get open-ear audio and spoken directions without reaching for a phone. It's also an easy pick if you'd rather choose your own AI than be locked into one.

Skip if

You need glasses that get through a long day of recording or translating without a top-up, or you work somewhere cameras aren't welcome. If a camera is a problem, the camera-free smart glasses rated for up to 12 hours of mixed use are the better fit. And if you mostly want music and calls outdoors, look at polarized audio sunglasses with an IP56 rating.

Light Enough to Forget

The frame weighs 38.5 g before lenses, and the charging contacts sit at the end of the temple.

The first thing I noticed is how little these weigh. The frame is 38.5 g before lenses, and Rokid's Amazon listing puts it at about 45.7 g with them, which is close to a regular pair of sunglasses. They've stayed comfortable through hours of wear, at the desk and out by the sea. Rokid pairs the light TR90 frame with flexible titanium alloy hinges and soft nose pads, and it shows.

They look good, too. The jet black frame has a clean, D-shaped front with a small camera lens in one corner, and nothing about it shouts "gadget." Rokid's logo on the temple is the only real giveaway. You don't get the long list of frame styles some rivals offer, so this one shape won't suit every face or taste. Still, it's a minimal, safe design that works with most outfits, and I'd happily wear it all day. The translucent grey version looks especially good.

The frame is also ready for real-world use. It's rated IPX4, so sweat and light rain aren't a problem, and it takes prescription, progressive, photochromic, tinted and polarized lenses, so it can replace your everyday glasses rather than sit alongside them.

Audio That Stays Between You and the Glasses

The audio is what won me over first. Of all the AI glasses I've tested, the Style has some of the best sound and audio quality I've heard. Dual directional speakers sit right by your ears and aim the sound toward them, so music, podcasts, calls and the AI's replies come through crisp, clear and loud. It has more volume and clarity than I expected from a pair of glasses.

It's private, too. The speakers focus the sound toward your ears, so at normal volumes, the people around me didn't hear what I was listening to. Because your ears stay open, you still hear traffic, conversations and announcements, which is exactly what you want on a walk or a commute. The flip side is that it won't block out a loud train the way noise-cancelling earbuds do. You can also switch between Rhythm and Podcast sound modes in the app, depending on whether you're listening to music or voices.

The four-mic array is just as impressive. The built-in recorder captures audio that doesn't sound like it came from a pair of glasses. It isn't a studio mic, but for something sitting on your face, it's very good. Here's a sample I recorded with the Style so you can judge for yourself.

A Camera You'll Actually Use

The 12MP camera sits in the corner of the frame, next to the hinge.

The 12MP Sony IMX681 camera is one of the best I've used on smart glasses. Photos come out clean and sharp, colors look accurate, and it handled direct sunlight, outdoor scenes and dimmer indoor light better than I expected for a camera this small. Most people looking at my shots wouldn't guess they came from glasses until they spot the watermark. It won't match a modern flagship phone, but for capturing a moment without reaching for one, it's excellent.

Two unedited photos taken with the Rokid AI Glasses Style camera, a beach scene and a desk setup
Straight from the glasses: the beach, with my cap brim in the corner, and my desk.

It's also quick. Press the button on the temple once for a photo, or press and hold to start recording, and it responds every time. Video records at up to 3K and 30fps, with electronic stabilization to smooth out movement, and each clip can run up to 10 minutes. One tip from my beach shots: if you wear a cap, the brim can creep into the top corner of the frame.

Where the Style really stands out is how much control it gives you. You can shoot photos in 4K 3:4, 4K 9:16 or 3K 4:3, and choose video formats from 3K 9:16 portrait to 2.5K 4:3 landscape. You can set clip lengths from 15 seconds to 10 minutes, turn on auto horizon leveling, change the watermark style, and set up interval recording that captures a few seconds every minute. Then everything syncs to the app automatically, ready to import as soon as it finishes. That's the difference between a camera you play with once and one that becomes part of your routine.

Your Choice of ChatGPT or Gemini

This is where most AI glasses I've tried fall short, and where the Style pulls ahead. You aren't locked into one assistant. In the Hi Rokid app, you can set both the main model and the vision model to ChatGPT, Gemini or Auto, and switch whenever you like. You can wake it by saying "Hi Rokid," by holding a finger on the temple for a couple of seconds, or with a two-finger long press that runs a preset command, like "Take a look at what's in front" or one you write yourself.

It works well. It identified a Logitech MX Master 4 mouse on my desk and told me it costs about $120 in the US. It read the headline of a Technobezz article on my monitor, recognized a USB-C cable, and told me the plant on my desk looked real. It caught me up on the day's tech news, set a reminder for later that afternoon, and remembered what I'd asked a couple of minutes earlier. With continuous conversation turned on, I could ask follow-up questions without repeating the wake word, and the voice sounds natural and friendly rather than robotic.

ChatGPT set as the main model, and the AI identifying the mouse on my desk.

It isn't flawless. When I asked about a brand-new software release, it gave a confident answer, then admitted it didn't have a verified source for those details. It could also set a reminder by voice but couldn't cancel one. As with any AI assistant, double-check anything important. Day to day, though, it understood what I asked, described what was in front of me correctly, and lived up to everything Rokid promises.

Translation That Keeps Up

Real-time translation is the best I've used on a pair of glasses. I played French, Spanish and Japanese videos on YouTube, and the Style translated them into English in my ears with very little delay. It sounds casual and conversational rather than stiff and word for word, and the app saves a transcript of each session, with the original line above the translation.

The language list, and a transcript of a Japanese video translated into English.

Rokid supports up to 76 languages online, and the app can detect the language for you. There's a Class and Movies mode that picks up voices from all around you for lectures and videos, a face-to-face mode for conversations, and a DuoTalk option for two people taking turns speaking to your phone. You can also download an offline translation pack for when you don't have a connection.

Directions, Calls and Notes Without Your Phone

Navigation is really good. You get spoken turn-by-turn directions, with separate modes for walking, cycling and driving, so your phone can stay in your pocket. For calls, Rokid lets you nod to answer and shake your head to hang up, and the glasses can stay connected to two devices at once, switching audio to whichever one is playing.

The Recording feature is great for meetings and lectures. It records the audio, then the app turns it into a transcript and an AI summary, and you can snap photos along the way for the AI to include. There's also a live streaming option and support for Bluetooth accessories like rings, if you want to go further.

Setup Has One Bump, Then It's Smooth

Pairing the Style with the Hi Rokid app was simple, but getting through the first firmware update and connecting to Wi-Fi took a few attempts before it finished. That was the only real hiccup I had. Once it was done, it's been smooth sailing.

The app is where you make the glasses your own. You can choose what a press or long press of the function button does, set touchpad gestures for music and calls, turn wear detection on or off, pick which app notifications come through, and set an auto power-off timer. There's a lot to explore, but the defaults are sensible, and it never feels like a tool that needs extra steps before it's useful.

Battery Life Is the Trade-Off

Rokid rates the 210mAh battery for up to 12 hours of typical use, 6 hours of music, 5 hours of calls, 2 hours of translation and 45 minutes of video. In my use, it drained faster than that, especially with the camera, the AI and translation. During one 20-minute stretch of AI questions and photo lookups, the battery dropped from 28% to 19%. Short battery life is common across smart glasses, but if you use the camera or the assistant a lot, plan on charging during the day.

The magnetic charging cable snaps onto the end of the temple.

The good news is that it charges quickly. The magnetic cable snaps onto the end of the temple, and it doesn't take long to get back to a usable charge. For longer days, Rokid sells a charging case rated for about 11 extra charges and a clip-on Power Capsule good for about six, which attaches while you wear the glasses. Both cost extra, and the folding case in the box doesn't charge. Some Amazon bundles include the Power Capsule, so check the listing if you want one.

FAQ

Does the Rokid AI Glasses Style have a display?
No. The Style is display-free by design. AI answers, navigation and translation come through the open-ear speakers, and you can read transcripts and manage photos in the Hi Rokid app. Rokid sells a separate model with a display, the Rokid Glasses, if you want text in your lenses.

Can I use ChatGPT and Gemini?
Yes. The Hi Rokid app lets you set the main AI model and the vision model to ChatGPT, Gemini or Auto, and you can change them at any time.

Can I get prescription lenses?
Yes. The frame supports prescriptions from -15.00 to +15.00, including progressive lenses, plus photochromic, tinted and polarized options. Lens availability can vary by prescription and region.

How long does the battery last?
Rokid claims up to 12 hours of typical use, 6 hours of music and 45 minutes of video. With heavy camera, AI or translation use, mine drained noticeably faster, so I'd plan on a charge during the day or pick up the charging case or Power Capsule.

Will people know when I'm recording?
Yes. A privacy indicator light comes on while the camera is recording, so the people around you can tell.

Does it work with iPhone and Android?
Yes. It needs the Hi Rokid app on iOS 16 or later, or Android 12 or later, for pairing, settings, photos and updates.

Worth Wearing Every Day

The Rokid AI Glasses Style gets the important things right. It's light and good looking, it has some of the best audio I've heard from AI glasses, the camera is sharp and responsive, translation is genuinely useful, and the choice of ChatGPT or Gemini makes the assistant better than most. Battery life is the one real compromise, and the charging accessories cost extra, but that's a fair trade for everything else it does well.

If you've been waiting for AI glasses that do more than one thing well, these are the pair I'd tell you to buy. For glasses that do this much, they're remarkably easy to live with.
