Spotify is rolling out personal account streaming on seatback screens aboard United’s Starlink-equipped aircraft, giving passengers access to their own listening libraries during flights. Both Spotify Free and Premium accounts are supported, and passengers can connect without purchasing a WiFi pass or logging in to MileagePlus. Spotify says the rollout is underway now, with more aircraft due to receive the functionality through 2027.

The personal account experience initially depends on finding a United flight with the new functionality, while the older Spotify channel already spans the airline’s fleet. That channel offers 450 hours of selected audio, including audiobooks and podcasts, at no charge on seatback displays. Spotify introduced that curated offering last year, and it says the new integration marks the first time personal account streaming has come to United seatback screens.

To connect an account, passengers first join the WiFi network named “United” on their phone, then select Spotify on the seatback display. The screen presents a QR code that passengers scan with their phone’s camera before approving the pairing on the phone. An existing Spotify login on the phone connects automatically after confirmation; anyone without one is prompted to log in or create an account there.

Once paired, passengers can browse recommendations, open Your Library or return to something they were already listening to, such as a video podcast. The integration also brings DJ and music videos to the screen, alongside saved playlists and a personalized Home feed. Spotify says the features and playback choices passengers receive depend on their subscription plan and market.

Passengers can operate Spotify through the seatback touchscreen or use their phone as an optional remote for browsing and playback. Audio continues when they switch to other seatback functions, including the flight map. A compact player remains on screen so passengers can adjust playback without reopening Spotify.

Account credentials are entered on the phone rather than on the shared seatback display. Spotify says passengers are signed out automatically when the flight ends, and the screen is reset before the next passengers board. Anyone wanting to disconnect earlier can also sign out through Spotify on the seatback display at any point.
