ASUS has announced the XG Core Radeon RX 9060 XT LP 16GB GDDR6, an external GPU that connects over USB4 to give compatible portable computers dedicated graphics without opening their cases. It combines AMD RDNA 4 architecture with 16GB of GDDR6 memory, targeting games, creative software and compatible AI applications.

The USB4 link supports bandwidth of up to 40Gbps, and supported hosts include compatible laptops, mini PCs and gaming handhelds. ASUS names the ROG Xbox Ally X and ROG Ally X among compatible devices, while also supporting compatible Thunderbolt 3 systems. Pricing has not been disclosed.

The enclosure measures 144 x 117 x 39mm, giving users a separate graphics unit they can carry between workspaces alongside a portable computer. DisplayPort and HDMI outputs provide connections for external screens, including desktop monitors and portable displays. ASUS advises users to verify their host's connectivity and support for external graphics before connecting the unit.

ASUS says the GPU can accelerate editing video, rendering 3D scenes and running design software that supports Radeon graphics. For games, the company promises smoother play and more detailed visuals on supported computers. Its external approach lets owners add dedicated graphics for demanding tasks while continuing to use their existing system.

Local AI uses include generating images and running inference with large language models in compatible applications. ASUS identifies Ollama, ComfyUI and LM Studio as software options for those workflows. The company cautions that results and compatibility vary with the model, workload and computer configuration.

GPU Tweak III provides adjustments for memory frequency, GPU clocks and voltage, together with fan controls. Users can also track operating information in real time through a configurable overlay. ASUS says supported settings allow users to balance temperature, graphics performance and fan noise across different applications.

The external GPU follows ASUS's October announcement of the TUF Gaming Radeon RX 9070 XT Onimusha Special Edition, a limited edition card bundled with Onimusha: Way of the Sword. That card also carried 16GB of GDDR6 memory and used AMD RDNA 4 architecture, with its OC Mode boost clock reaching up to 3080MHz.
