Spam calls and unwanted messages are a constant annoyance, but your POCO X7 Pro running HyperOS 2 gives you several tools to fight back. Once you block a number, it can't call or text you through the standard phone or messaging apps. Here's how to do it and manage your blocked list.
Block from Your Recent Calls List
Open the Phone app and tap the Recents tab at the bottom. Find the number you want to block and tap on it to view the call details. On this screen, you should see an option like Block/report spam or simply Block. Tap it and confirm your choice. Calls from this number will now be silently rejected.
Block Directly from a Text Message
If the spam is coming via SMS, open the Messages app. Find the conversation from the unwanted number and long-press on it. From the menu that pops up, select Block. You can also open the conversation, tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner, and choose Details to find the block option there. This stops both calls and messages from that sender.
Block a Contact from Your Address Book
For someone already in your contacts, open the Contacts app. Find and tap on the person's name to open their contact card. Tap the three-dot menu button, usually in the top-right corner, and look for Block numbers. This will block every phone number associated with that contact, which is useful if they're calling from multiple lines.
Manage Your Entire Blocked List
To see who you've blocked or to unblock someone, go to your Phone app settings. Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right, then go to Settings > Blocked numbers. You'll see a complete list. Tap the X or trash icon next to any entry to remove it from the blocklist. You can also manually add numbers to this list by tapping an Add button.
Turn On Built-in Spam Protection
Your POCO X7 Pro likely uses the Google Phone app, which has excellent spam detection. Go to Phone app > Settings > Caller ID & spam. Here, toggle on See caller and spam ID and Filter spam calls. With this enabled, calls identified as spam will be flagged with a red warning or sent directly to voicemail without ringing your phone.
Silence Calls from Unknown Numbers
For a more aggressive approach, you can silence all calls from numbers not in your contacts. In the Phone app settings, navigate to Blocked numbers. Look for a toggle labeled Block calls from unknown numbers or similar and turn it on. Legitimate callers can still leave a voicemail, which you can check later. I'd use this cautiously if you're expecting calls from doctors or delivery services.
What Actually Happens When You Block
When you block a number on your POCO X7 Pro, the caller typically hears one ring before being sent to voicemail, or they may just get a busy signal. They won't receive any notification that they've been specifically blocked. Any text messages they send will be silently discarded and won't appear in your Messages app at all.
Use a Third-Party Call Blocker App
For maximum protection, consider a dedicated app like Truecaller. These apps maintain massive, crowdsourced databases of spam numbers and can block them before your phone even rings. After installing from the Play Store, the app will guide you through granting the necessary permissions to screen calls system-wide. It can also identify unknown callers by name, which is handy.
If you find that notifications from your phone apps are delayed, a quirk sometimes reported with HyperOS 2, make sure battery optimization is turned off for your Phone and Messages apps. Go to Settings > Apps > [App Name] > Battery and set it to No restrictions. This ensures spam alerts and call filters work in real-time.
