Spam calls and unwanted messages are a constant annoyance, but your Huawei Pura 70 Pro running EMUI 14.2 has several built-in tools to block them. Once you block a number, calls and texts from it are silently rejected. Here's how to manage it all directly from your phone.
Block a Number from Your Call Log
Open the Phone app and tap the Recents tab. Find the number you want to block and tap the i icon next to it. This opens the call details. Scroll down and tap Block number. Confirm your choice, and that number will no longer be able to reach you.
Block a Contact from the Contacts App
If the person is already in your address book, open the Contacts app. Find and tap their name to open their contact card. Tap the More button (it looks like three dots) and select Block from the menu. This action blocks all phone numbers associated with that contact.
Block a Number from a Text Message
Open the Huawei Messages app and find the conversation with the unwanted number. Tap and hold on the conversation thread in your list. A menu will pop up. Select Block from this menu to immediately block the sender. You can also open the conversation, tap the three-dot menu in the top right, and choose Details to find the block option there.
View and Manage Your Blocked List
To see all the numbers you've blocked or to unblock someone, go to your Phone app. Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner and go to Settings. From there, navigate to Blocked numbers. You'll see your complete list. Tap the red minus sign or trash icon next to any entry to unblock it.
You can also add numbers to the block list manually from this same screen. Tap the Add button (often a plus sign) and enter the phone number you want to block. This is useful for preemptively blocking numbers you know you don't want to hear from.
Use the Built-in Harassment Filter
Huawei's EMUI includes a harassment filter that can automatically identify and block suspected spam calls. To enable it, open Settings from your home screen. Scroll down and tap on Security & privacy, then select Harassment filter.
Toggle on Harassment filter and Smart identification of harassment calls. You can choose to have these calls blocked silently or redirected to voicemail. I've found this feature effectively cuts down on robocalls and telemarketers.
Block All Unknown or Hidden Numbers
For the most aggressive protection, you can block calls from any number not in your contacts. Go to Phone > Settings > Blocked numbers. Look for an option like Block unknown/hidden numbers or Block calls from strangers and toggle it on.
Be aware this will block calls from doctors' offices, delivery drivers, or anyone else not saved in your phone. They can usually still leave a voicemail, so it's a good idea to check yours periodically if you have this enabled.
What Actually Happens When You Block Someone
When you block a number on your Pura 70 Pro, the caller typically hears one ring before being sent to voicemail, or they may hear a busy signal. They receive no notification that they have been blocked. Any text messages they send will not appear in your Messages app at all. The system silently deletes them.
Blocking is handled by your phone's software, not your carrier. This means the block stays active even if you switch SIM cards, as long as it's configured in the phone's settings.
Consider a Third-Party Call Blocker from AppGallery
Since the Pura 70 Pro uses Huawei's AppGallery without Google Play Services, you can find alternative call-blocking apps there. Popular global apps like Truecaller are available for download. These apps maintain massive, crowdsourced databases of spam numbers.
After installing, the app will guide you through granting the necessary permissions to identify and block calls system-wide. They can provide caller ID for unknown numbers and more granular filtering options than the built-in tools.
Dealing with Spam Messages and Emails
For spam text messages, the block method from the Messages app is your best bet. For email spam, the process depends on your email app. If you use Huawei's default Email app, open the spam message, tap the three-dot menu, and look for options like Mark as spam or Block sender.
If you've sideloaded Gmail or another client, the steps will be specific to that app. Generally, you can open the email and use the menu to report or block the sender, which trains the app's filter for the future.
