Spam calls can be a real nuisance, but your Honor Magic 7 Pro running MagicOS 9.0 has several built-in tools to shut them down. You can block numbers individually, use automated filters, and even tap into Google's spam protection to keep your phone quiet.
Block a Number from Your Call Log
Open the Phone app and head to the Recents tab. Find the spam number in your list and tap on it to view the call details. On the details screen, you should see an option like Block number or Report as spam. Tapping this will add the number to your blocked list, preventing future calls and texts.
Block a Contact or Number Directly
You can also block someone from your Contacts app. Open the app, find the contact you want to block, and tap to view their details. Look for a three-dot menu or a specific Block option within the contact card. This method is useful if you're getting unwanted calls from someone already saved in your phone.
Manage Your Blocked List
To see which numbers you've blocked or to manually add a new one, go to your Phone app's settings. Tap the three-dot menu, select Settings, and then look for Blocked numbers. Here, you'll find the full list. You can tap the plus icon to add a number manually or tap the remove icon next to any entry to unblock it.
Turn On Google's Spam Protection
If you're using Google's Phone app, which is common on many Android devices, it has excellent spam filtering. Open the Phone app, go to Settings > Caller ID & spam. Here, toggle on See caller and spam ID and Filter spam calls. With this on, calls identified as spam will be automatically declined and sent to voicemail.
Silence Calls from Unknown Numbers
For a more aggressive approach, you can silence all calls from numbers not in your contacts. In the Phone app settings under Blocked numbers, look for a toggle labeled Unknown or Block unknown callers. When enabled, these calls won't ring, but they can still leave a voicemail, so you won't miss anything truly important.
Use a Third-Party Call Blocker App
For the most comprehensive protection, consider an app from the Google Play Store like Truecaller or Hiya. These apps maintain massive, community-updated databases of spam numbers. Once installed and set up, they can identify and block spam calls system-wide before your phone even rings, which I've found cuts down on interruptions significantly.
Block Spam Text Messages
Your Messages app has similar blocking features. Open a conversation from an unwanted number, tap the three-dot menu in the top right, and select Details. You should see a Block & report spam option. This blocks the number and reports it to help improve spam filters for everyone.
What Happens When You Block a Number
When you block someone, their calls are typically redirected straight to your voicemail after one ring, so they won't get a clear indication they're blocked. Any text messages they send are silently deleted and will never appear in your Messages app. The process is designed to be seamless on your end.
If you're ever unsure whether a feature is in the Honor dialer or Google's Phone app, check which app you have set as default under Settings > Apps > Default apps. The steps might vary slightly, but the blocking functionality is robust in both.
