Spam calls and unwanted texts are a universal annoyance, but your Redmi Note 14 Pro running HyperOS gives you several straightforward ways to block them. Once a number is blocked, it can't call or send you text messages through the standard phone and messaging apps.
Block a Number from Your Call Log
Open the Phone app and tap the Recents tab. Find the number you want to block, then tap and hold on the entry. A menu will pop up. Select Block from this menu and confirm your choice. The number will be added to your blocked list immediately.
Block a Contact from the Messages App
If you're getting spam texts, open the Messages app. Find the conversation with the unwanted number and tap to open it. Next, tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner and select Details. On the contact details screen, you should see an option for Block & report spam. Tapping this will block the number and report the conversation as spam to help improve filtering.
Block Directly from Your Contacts List
For numbers already saved in your phone, open the Contacts app. Find and tap the contact you wish to block to open their details page. Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner and look for Block numbers. This will block all phone numbers associated with that contact.
Manage Your Blocked Numbers List
To see who you've blocked or to unblock someone, go to your phone's main Settings. Scroll down and tap on Apps, then find and select Phone or Call management. Look for an option labeled Blocked numbers. Here, you'll see a complete list. Tap the X or trash icon next to any entry to unblock it.
Turn on Built-in Spam Protection
Xiaomi includes a spam call filter in HyperOS. To enable it, open the Phone app and tap the three-dot menu, then go to Settings > Call blocking & identification. Toggle on Harassment filter or Smart identification of harassment calls. With this on, suspected spam calls may be flagged or automatically rejected.
Silence Calls from Unknown Numbers
A more aggressive approach is to silence all calls from numbers not in your contacts. This can be helpful if you're getting a high volume of spam. Go to Settings > Sound & vibration > DND & Attention. You can create a "Do Not Disturb" rule that allows only calls from your contacts, sending everyone else directly to voicemail without ringing your phone.
What Actually Happens When You Block
When you block a number on your Redmi Note 14 Pro, the caller will typically hear the phone ring once or go straight to voicemail, depending on your carrier. They won't receive a specific notification that they are blocked. Any text messages they send will be silently discarded and will not appear in your Messages app at all.
I've found that this system works reliably, but it's important to know that blocking is handled by your phone's software, not your carrier. So, the block is active only on this specific device.
Block Unwanted Email Senders
For spam coming to your email, open the Gmail app. Open an email from the sender you want to block. Tap the three-dot menu in the top right and select Block "[sender name]". Future emails from that address will go directly to your Spam folder. You can manage your blocked list later in Gmail's settings under Settings > Blocked addresses.
Consider a Third-Party Call Blocker
For the most comprehensive protection, you can install an app like Truecaller from the Google Play Store. These apps maintain massive, crowdsourced databases of spam numbers and can identify unknown callers. After installation, you'll be prompted to set it as your default dialer, which allows it to screen and block calls system-wide before your phone even rings.
If you go this route, be mindful of the permissions you grant. Also, a quick tip for your Note 14 Pro: disabling unnecessary notifications from system apps can help reduce interruptions, making it easier to spot the alerts that actually matter.
