Wyze has announced the Solar Cam, a wire-free 2K outdoor security camera that ships with its own solar panel. It is available from today at Wyze.com for $69.98, or $59.98 for the camera without the panel.
Solar charging
The camera has a 5200mAh battery, and the included 1.77W panel keeps it charged. Wyze says one hour of direct sunlight a day is enough under regular use. The panel can mount on the same bracket as the camera, or sit up to 10 feet away on an extension cord where it gets more sun.
Video
The Solar Cam records 2K video at 2304 x 1296 with a 130-degree field of view and wide dynamic range for scenes with bright sky and dark shade. A starlight sensor gives color night vision in low light, and it switches to infrared in total darkness.
Outdoor features
- 100-lumen motion-activated spotlight and a built-in siren.
- IP65 weather rating, rated for -4°F to 122°F.
- Setup over Bluetooth, with a slide-on bracket and no outlet needed.
- Wi-Fi 6 router support.
Detection and storage
Motion detection with thumbnails runs on the camera at no cost. Wyze's optional Cam Plus subscription adds pet, package and vehicle alerts and cloud clips. For local storage, the camera records motion events to a microSD card of up to 256GB, sold separately. Wyze says continuous 24/7 recording to the card works when the camera runs in AC mode.
Price and availability
The Wyze Solar Cam is available from today at Wyze.com for $69.98 with the solar panel, or $59.98 without it. It is the second of three launches during Wyze Week, which runs from October 19 to 23.
