Garmin’s new Edge 1060 cycling computer lets riders request performance data, choose routes and report hazards by voice while keeping their hands on the handlebars. Available now at a suggested retail price of $799.99, it includes a microphone and speaker for commands, spoken directions and messages. Garmin rates battery life at up to 20 hours under its most demanding usage conditions, compared with up to 60 hours in battery saver mode.

Voice commands can bring information onto the screen, have the computer speak ride statistics or request directions to a nearby destination such as a coffee shop. Garmin cautions that riding conditions can affect command performance, and voice control supports only select languages. Voice messaging has a separate requirement: riders need a connected smartphone to exchange recordings with other Garmin Messenger app users.

The speaker plays incoming voice messages as well as workout instructions and navigation guidance. It also serves as a digital bike bell to alert other cyclists. Alongside its touchscreen, Edge 1060 has additional buttons that Garmin says offer another way to operate it with gloves or in difficult weather.

Route Options lets cyclists compare routes using factors including elevation, bicycle type and journey time, while Route Previews supplies distance estimates, traffic information and reported hazards before departure. Free Flow Routing seeks routes that minimize interruptions from intersections, stops and slowdowns. Riders can also use Up Ahead to choose the kinds of stops they want to track along their route, including restrooms and coffee shops.

Road closure alerts draw on reports from other Garmin cyclists and require pairing with a compatible smartphone running Garmin Connect. Cyclists can contribute hazard reports through voice control. GroupRide detection can identify a nearby active session for riders to join, with features including messaging and shared live locations.

For training, Garmin Cycling Coach offers a free personalized plan that adjusts to performance, recovery and course demands. TrainingPeaks users can automatically synchronize their planned workouts to Edge 1060, and the interactive workout screen lets riders inspect upcoming steps or change the workout view’s zoom.

Pairing a compatible Garmin smartwatch or CIRQA Smart Band adds recovery and health information gathered away from the bicycle. Edge 1060 can also supply emergency power to a phone, Varia headlight or taillight, or another device through reverse charging. That function requires a compatible USB-C cable, and Garmin says it is not meant for charging while riding.
