Google is adding automatic meeting recaps to Google Chat, giving teams a summary of discussions, decisions and assigned follow-up work after a Google Meet call ends. The cards appear in the meeting’s associated Chat space when “Take notes for me” is active during the call.

Rollout began October 16 for Rapid Release domains, while Scheduled Release domains are due to begin receiving the feature October 27; each rollout can take up to 15 days. Access covers Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus and Frontline Plus.

Recaps identify who owns each action item and provide links to the transcript, recording and complete Gemini meeting notes document. Google says the summaries help participants check their next steps and let people who arrived late or missed the call catch up. A recap requires an existing meeting chat conversation, and hosts who restrict “Send notes to” to “Hosts and co-hosts only” prevent a card from appearing in the group chat.

Cards arrive silently, leaving the conversation without bold highlighting or an unread badge in the conversation roster. Any participant in the meeting conversation can remove a card through the three-dot More options menu by choosing Delete. That removes the chat summary while preserving the original notes document in Google Drive.

The recaps follow Google’s October 12 introduction of next steps in Google Meet, extending its recent work on post-meeting follow-up into Chat. Google described that earlier capability as using Gemini and Workspace Studio to automate tasks such as preparing Gmail follow-up drafts or sending action items to Google Tasks.
