Straight Talk today announced upgrades to its Silver Unlimited, Gold Unlimited and Platinum Unlimited plans, adding 5G Ultra Wideband access while holding monthly base prices at $45, $55 and $65, respectively. The changes give Silver and Gold customers larger hotspot allowances and extend a $10 monthly Home Internet bundle discount across all three plans.
Gold Unlimited now includes a 50 GB hotspot allowance, which Straight Talk describes as a 66% increase, for its $55 monthly base price. Silver Unlimited gets 15 GB for hotspot use, a 50% increase, at a monthly base price of $45. Platinum Unlimited costs $65 a month and includes unlimited premium data and hotspot use, putting it above the two cheaper plans with their fixed hotspot allowances.
Straight Talk says the 5G Ultra Wideband access included across the three plans delivers speeds three times those of standard 5G. The company is keeping its existing monthly base prices as it introduces the changes. Silver Unlimited's $45 monthly base price dates back to 2009, according to Straight Talk.
Customers combining Home Internet with any of the three mobile plans get a $35 monthly base price for the home service. That is $10 less than its $45 monthly base price without the bundle. Straight Talk is expanding that Home Internet discount to cover subscribers on Silver Unlimited as well as Gold Unlimited and Platinum Unlimited.
For international use, Gold Unlimited adds unlimited calls and texts covering more than 200 destinations, plus 10 GB of roaming data for use in Mexico and Canada. Silver Unlimited expands its international calling and texting coverage to China, India, Mexico and Canada, with unlimited use. Platinum Unlimited retains international calling, texting and roaming benefits matching those offered on Gold Unlimited.
Gold Unlimited also retains an included Walmart+ membership and 100 GB of cloud storage. Platinum Unlimited keeps its Walmart+ membership, a larger 500 GB cloud storage allowance and included tablet service for customers bringing their own tablet. Straight Talk values that tablet service at $10 a month.
Straight Talk offers its no-contract wireless service exclusively through Walmart and online. Customers can find the service at Walmart stores, Walmart.com and StraightTalk.com. The brand belongs to Verizon's portfolio of prepaid services.
