Google Meet's automatic room check-in is now rolling out to all Workspace customers with Meet hardware, the company announced. The feature, available on Android and iOS devices, uses ultrasound proximity detection through a phone or tablet microphone to simplify joining meetings in companion mode within conference rooms. It was introduced in January 2026 for Rapid Release organizations in Early Preview Rooms.
According to Google, the Android rollout was expected to wrap up no later than September 10, 2026, while iOS users may see the feature appear gradually from September 9, in some cases after as long as 15 days.

The rollout follows several recent Google Workspace updates. Google Meet hardware is transitioning to Android (AOSP), with ChromeOS support unchanged until September 2030. Co-presenters in Google Meet can now be added with one click via a Gemini suggestion. The 'Take notes for me' control from Meet hardware touch controllers was set to begin rolling out on August 31, 2026, according to Google.
Google also recently introduced built-in interoperability between Google Meet and Microsoft Teams on Android (AOSP) devices, now in Early Preview, allowing users to join Teams meetings from Meet hardware and vice versa. That capability previously launched on ChromeOS and Windows devices.
