Fairphone has introduced Fairbuds 2, true wireless earbuds with 11mm bio-cellulose dynamic drivers, LDAC support and up to seven replaceable parts. The batteries inside the earbuds and charging case are among the components owners can change, giving buyers a way to address battery wear without replacing the entire set.

Fairbuds 2 are the first wireless earbuds from Fairphone to support LDAC, a change that brings a higher-resolution streaming option to its earbud range. Fairphone puts the maximum audio bitrate at 990 kbps and says that is three times the rate offered by standard Bluetooth codecs. Acoustic engineering studio Form Follows Frequency, based in Rotterdam, handled the tuning.

Fairphone says the drivers produce stronger bass, warmer midrange sound and clearer high frequencies. Listeners can adjust the sound through the new Fairbuds app, which is available for both iOS and Android. The app offers four presets for people who want a ready-made setting, alongside an adjustable five-band equalizer for more detailed changes.

For listening in noisy surroundings, Fairphone rates noise reduction at up to 45dB. The earbuds use an array of six microphones, which the company says helps keep speech clear on calls when conditions are windy. Fairphone also says noise cancellation has improved compared with its earlier offering.

Google Fast Pair is included, and multipoint connectivity allows two connections to remain active simultaneously. Fairbuds 2 can remember up to six devices, while users can switch between the two currently connected devices. Their IP54 rating covers resistance to splashes and dust, with Fairphone describing them as suitable for light rain.

Repair options extend beyond the batteries to the body of the charging case, another part that can be replaced individually. Warranty protection runs for up to three years. Fairphone also says the exterior is entirely free of PFAS and claims Fairbuds 2 are the first earbuds worldwide with that characteristic.
