Google began rolling out Gemini 4 Argon to Android developers on October 13, bringing the model to Android Studio, Google Antigravity and Google AI Studio in supported regions worldwide. Google says the model improves agents’ ability to plan complex software work and carry out tasks through multiple steps, including diagnosing failed builds and writing Android interfaces. Access requires a Google AI Ultra subscription or the paid tier of the Gemini API, depending on the development tool.

Google AI Ultra subscribers can use Gemini 4 Argon through Google Antigravity’s desktop application or terminal CLI, as well as its integration with Android Studio Canary. Developers using the paid Gemini API tier can access the model in Android Studio, while Google AI Studio supports both access routes through Playground and Build. Introductory API pricing runs through November 30, 2026, but Google gives no price amounts.

The access requirements differ within Android Studio itself: the Antigravity route requires Google AI Ultra, while the Gemini API route requires paid API access. The standalone Antigravity application supports Linux, macOS and Windows. Google also began making Gemini 4 Argon available through Firebase AI Logic on October 13 for developers worldwide using the paid Gemini API tier, enabling client-side features in web and mobile applications.

For build repairs, Antigravity collects failure information from Kotlin compiler logs and Gradle daemons so the model can diagnose problems and revise its changes. Google says Gemini 4 Argon’s training helps it preserve a working hypothesis through repeated edits and use awareness of the code’s Abstract Syntax Tree to guide changes. The company says those capabilities improve its ability to identify the underlying cause of a failed build.

Google also says Gemini 4 Argon can generate Jetpack Compose code involving Android Graphics Shading Language (AGSL), including lighting effects, ripples and frosted glass. Its claimed rendering capabilities include GPU shaders running alongside Compose animations at 120 FPS. The official Android CLI plugin connects agents with local Android tools, allowing them to issue commands for routine tasks and run custom developer skills.

Developers can enable android-cli-plugin through the Antigravity desktop settings or plugin marketplace, or install it from the terminal with the command agy plugin install android-cli-plugin. For other terminal agents, Android CLI setup uses android init. In Android Studio Canary, developers activate Antigravity workflows by signing into their Antigravity account through the agent tool window.
