Google is introducing a redesigned Google Play for cars with Google built-in, changing how drivers find apps in a library that already offers more than 700. Google also plans to add YouTube background audio, allowing people watching a video while parked to continue listening when they shift into drive.
The redesigned homepage will surface newly added apps and featured selections alongside information about them, with downloads available through one tap. Google says the interface will adjust to each vehicle’s screen dimensions and orientation, including the display’s shape.

Google is also reorganizing navigation and adding curated app collections suited to driving or being parked. Those collections will help users browse and compare options for gaming, audio and video, among other categories.
Firefox and STARZ are among the apps coming to Google Play for cars with Google built-in, alongside Ludo King and JioHotstar. Google describes the additions as options for browsing the web, watching shows and playing games while parked; the YouTube feature extends listening into driving time.
Google says YouTube will be the first service to offer the transition from dashboard video while parked to background audio while driving. It also says it will continue developing in-car media experiences with automakers including Volvo, Honda and Mazda, and media developers including Audible, SiriusXM and Amazon Music.
