To install Microsoft Teams, download the Windows or Mac app from Microsoft, or get Microsoft Teams from Google Play or Apple's App Store, then open it and sign in. The current app supports personal, work, and school accounts. After signing in, choose your microphone and camera and adjust your notifications.
You can use an existing Outlook.com, OneDrive, or Xbox account for personal Teams, also called Teams Free. For work or school, use the account supplied by your organization. Windows permission and startup steps use Windows 11 menus.

Install Teams on Windows
Open the Microsoft Teams download page and select Download Microsoft Teams for Windows. Open the downloaded installer and complete its prompts. Once installation finishes, open Start > Microsoft Teams to begin signing in.
Microsoft's minimum requirements include Windows 10 build 19041 or later and current WebView2, with Windows LTSC excluded. That minimum does not mean every Windows release remains supported. Use a compatible PC for the desktop installation, or choose a supported desktop browser.
You can also install Teams through Microsoft Store. Open Microsoft Store, search for Microsoft Teams, and select Install. Open Teams when installation finishes and sign in with your personal or organizational account.
If your managed work or school PC blocks installation, ask your administrator to check its app-package restrictions. Use the current Teams app for a new installation. Microsoft says classic Teams stopped functioning after its July 1, 2025 end of availability, so skip classic installers and the old migration toggle.
Install Teams on a Mac
On Microsoft's download page, select Download Teams for Mac. Open the downloaded installer and complete its prompts, then open Applications > Microsoft Teams. Sign in with your personal or organizational account.
The desktop app supports Intel and Apple silicon Macs running one of the three most recent major macOS versions. If your Mac does not meet that requirement, use the browser route if your browser meets Teams for Web requirements. Grant camera and microphone permissions when Teams requests access.
Get Teams on your phone or tablet
On Android, open Google Play and find Microsoft Teams by Microsoft Corporation. Select Install, then open Teams and sign in. Microsoft supports the last four major Android versions, and app availability also depends on your device and region.
For an iPhone or iPad, open the App Store and find Microsoft Teams by Microsoft Corporation. Download the app and complete your device's installation authentication, then open Teams and sign in. The current app requires iOS 17.0 or later on iPhone, or iPadOS 17.0 or later on iPad.
If you are already viewing Microsoft's download page on a computer, find Get the Teams mobile app and scan its QR code with your phone. Finish installing through the destination app store. Microsoft says personal Teams mobile access is unavailable in China, and Microsoft is also ending personal-use desktop and web access there.
Use Teams in a browser or install a web app
To use Teams without a desktop installer, open Teams on the web and sign in. Supported browsers include the latest three versions of Edge, Chrome, or Firefox on Windows, macOS, and Linux, plus the latest two Safari versions on macOS. Teams for Web is not supported in mobile browsers or VDI, so use the mobile app on your phone or tablet.
For a separate app window in Edge, open Teams and select Settings and more > More tools > Apps > Install this site as an app. Alternatively, follow Edge's web app installation prompt. This installs a browser-hosted app with Teams web capabilities.
In Chrome, open Teams and select More > Cast, save, and share > Install page as app..., then complete the installation prompt. These desktop web app routes also work on Linux. Use a supported browser or web app on Linux because Microsoft no longer supports the native Linux client.
If you only need to attend a meeting, open the invitation and select the link next to Join or select Join the meeting now, then select Continue on this browser. Select Allow when asked for microphone or camera access, choose your audio and video options, and select Join now. If the organizer requires verification, enter your email, select Next, and follow the sign-in or Send code flow. Your invitation and the organizer's settings determine how you can join a Teams meeting.
Sign in or create your personal account
For personal Teams on desktop, open Teams and select Get started. Enter your Microsoft account email address or phone number and select Next. Enter your password or verification code, then select Sign in.
On mobile, enter your email address or phone number and select Sign in. Enter your password or verification code and select Sign in again. An existing account used for Outlook.com, OneDrive, or Xbox works for personal Teams.
To create an account on mobile, enter a personal email address or phone number, select Next, then select Create a free account. On the web, select No account? Create one! and complete Microsoft's account creation flow. Sign in only through Microsoft’s own app or website, and never share a code, password, or remote access with someone who contacts you.
For work or school, sign in using your organization's username and password and complete any additional verification. Creating a free personal account does not create an employer-managed or school-managed account. If organizational access fails, ask your IT administrator to check your Teams access and configuration.
Choose your microphone and camera
In desktop Teams, select Settings and more > Settings > Devices. Under Audio settings, choose your Speaker and Microphone. Under Video settings > Camera, choose the camera you want Teams to use.
When the microphone does not work on Windows 11, open Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone. Turn on Microphone access, Let apps access your microphone, the applicable Teams entry, and Let desktop apps access your microphone. The Teams entry may be labeled Microsoft Teams (work or school); also check that your headset's boom or physical mute button is not muting the microphone.
On current macOS versions, after Teams requests access, open Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security. Open Camera or Microphone and allow Microsoft Teams. Restart Teams if its permission flow asks you to.
To share your screen in Teams on current macOS, enable Teams under Screen & System Audio Recording in the same privacy settings. Older macOS versions use a different screen-recording label, so follow the Teams permission flow to the relevant control. Restart Teams if prompted after changing permission.
Adjust notifications and appearance
In personal Teams on desktop, select More > Settings. Open Notifications and activity, Privacy, Appearance, or General to choose your preferences. Adjust notifications to control alerts as you use Teams for chats and meetings.
Mobile settings use slightly different categories. Select your profile picture, open Settings, then choose Notifications, Privacy, Appearance, or Profile. Choose your preferences within the relevant category.
Choose whether Teams opens automatically
To stop automatic startup in desktop Teams, select Settings and more > Settings > General. Under System, uncheck Auto-start Teams. This route applies to desktop installations that expose that setting.
If that setting is missing, Windows 11 also provides startup controls for registered startup apps. On Windows 11, open Start > Settings > Apps > Startup, then turn off Microsoft Teams when it is listed. Turn it on there instead if you want Teams to open automatically.
