Half of Slack messages now come from apps and agents, Salesforce said, putting software alongside people as a major source of activity in workplace channels. Users send a billion messages daily on the platform, while 1.9 million users interact with third-party agents there each week, according to the company. The 50% figure groups apps with agents, rather than measuring AI agents alone.
Salesforce says Slack handles 127 million automated actions known as MCP tool calls every week, with that volume doubling quarter over quarter. Through open standards including MCP, agents can use Slack context across GitHub, Salesforce and Jira and act in real time, the company says. Within Salesforce, 83% of employees use Slackbot weekly, and 90% of sellers use it to update Salesforce. The company also counts 694,000 active Slack channels internally. Vercel employees conduct more than 250,000 Slack searches monthly, and Salesforce credits transparent communication there with eliminating more than 70,000 meeting hours annually. Vercel's inbound sales agent lets one representative qualify leads, research them and draft outreach that would otherwise require a team of 10, Salesforce says. As a Slack Code launch partner, Vercel is also bringing its agent into code channels for team development work.
The figures follow Salesforce research released October 27 in which 68% of executives said they see AI insights go unshared each week. That research also put the time employees lose switching between AI tools and other applications at an average of 3.6 hours weekly.
