Google Classroom is rolling out an integration that lets teachers attach Guided Learning to any assignment, giving students access to a Gemini mode designed to guide them through problems with incremental help. Teachers can choose Classroom materials to provide context for the activity and review how students progress.

The global rollout covers every language Gemini supports and includes Education Fundamentals, Standard, and Plus. Distribution began November 3 for both Scheduled Release and Rapid Release domains, with feature visibility taking longer than 15 days. Access depends on administrators enabling Gemini for the groups or organizational units containing participating teachers and students.

Teachers can read AI-generated summaries of student conversations, covering both individual learners and the class overall, and open each student's chat transcript. Student access therefore comes with teacher visibility into the conversations they have during assigned activities. Google previously introduced conversation-based insight summaries for teacher-assigned notebooks in Google Classroom on October 19.

Opening an assigned activity hides Gemini's side navigation, prevents new chats within that tab and keeps the student in Guided Learning mode. With ChromeOS and Class Tools, teachers can launch the activity in an environment restricted to one tab and remotely view student screens.

Google says Guided Learning draws on its LearnLM research to offer progressively more helpful hints and support students as they work through difficulties. Suggested uses include help with difficult science or math work, developing project ideas before group discussions, and tutoring during homework or remote study.
