Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 crease problem may finally be dead. A redesigned hinge on the upcoming foldable lineup delivers crease performance comparable to the Oppo Find N6, the current industry benchmark, according to tipster Ice Universe. The hinge redesign is the headline upgrade across the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, which includes the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 (the new wider model) and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
Both the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Fold 8 Ultra are expected to benefit from the improved hinge design. The standard model adopts a shorter, wider passport-style form factor, positioning it as a direct competitor to Apple's upcoming foldable. The Fold 8 Ultra succeeds last year's Galaxy Z Fold 7 as the tall, traditional book-style foldable.
A promotional leak from Malaysia suggests Samsung will unveil the devices at an Unpacked event on July 22, alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8. Samsung has already begun teasing the lineup through regulatory filings and marketing materials.
Not every flagship feature carries over. Ice Universe confirmed that the Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Flip 8 will not include the privacy screen found on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, a hardware-level filter that blocks light from traveling sideways for on-device privacy. The feature remains exclusive to Samsung's slab flagship.
The Fold 8 Ultra is still expected to pack a 200MP camera, enhanced screen resolution, and a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. But the hinge redesign is the upgrade that addresses the one physical compromise every foldable user has had to accept.
If the crease is truly gone, that changes the calculus.
