Reddit is introducing two feeds, For You and Following, giving users a choice between a mix that includes recommendations and posts drawn exclusively from communities they have joined. The change is scheduled to reach users worldwide over the coming weeks, with Reddit positioning the split as a way to choose between finding communities and catching up with existing memberships.
For You brings together posts from joined communities and suggested content based on a user's interests, so joining a community does not exclude its posts from the discovery feed. Following restricts the selection to communities the user has joined, offering a separate destination for people who want to browse those communities without recommendations from elsewhere.
Users will be able to move between the two feeds whenever they choose, and Reddit will reopen whichever feed they viewed most recently when they return.
Reddit says its broader recommendation efforts aim to encourage people to join communities and participate in conversations after discovering an interest. The company also plans further experiments around navigating Reddit through interests and giving users additional influence over the content that appears in their feeds. Among the controls it describes are options to hide posts and signal that users want fewer similar items, with that feedback intended to improve recommendations.
The feed changes follow Reddit's August infrastructure and moderation update, when it put daily visits at more than 130 million people across over 100,000 communities. In a separate July safety update, Reddit said its use of advanced AI tools had cut exposure to spam by 20% and brought enforcement against hateful or violent content below five seconds.
Reddit describes the feed split as an initial step in its discovery work and says it will keep experimenting with ways to help people find communities and conversations they want to revisit.
