GitHub Copilot users can now pick OpenAI's GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna from the model picker, the company says. Sol is aimed at interactive and agentic coding, while Luna is built for smaller, faster jobs. Luna is the cheapest member of the GPT-6 family.
Both models carry usage-based billing, GitHub says. The post lists no rates, pointing instead to a GitHub page covering Copilot models and request pricing. The same post gives no token limits, no context window, and no benchmark results for either model.

Access differs by plan. Sol is open to Copilot Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise subscribers. Luna reaches a wider group, covering Pro, Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise. The rollout is gradual, so not every eligible user will see the two models at once.
The picker spans most of the places Copilot runs: Visual Studio Code, JetBrains, Xcode, the Copilot CLI, github.com, and GitHub Mobile, among other surfaces. Sol and Luna join GPT-6 Astra, which GitHub had already shipped in Copilot.
On Copilot Business and Enterprise plans, administrators keep control through the model policy in Copilot settings. Default enablement switches new models on automatically, and admins who want them off can either change the global default or disable each model explicitly.
The launch lands in a busy stretch for Copilot's model roster. Claude Opus 5.5 arrived in Copilot on the same day, and Grok 4.7 began rolling out a day earlier, billed at provider list pricing. GitHub had also recently made its improved Copilot code review experience generally available.
Those additions sit alongside a round of retirements. GitHub said in mid-September that it would deprecate several models on October 19, including Gemini 3.7 Flash, GPT-5.5, GPT-5.4, GPT-5.4 mini, GPT-5 mini, and Grok 4.5, across Chat, inline edits, ask, agent, and completions. Sol and Luna arrive before that cutoff.
