A 240Hz smartphone display has never existed in the mainstream market. OnePlus is trying to change that with the OnePlus 16.

Reliable Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station detailed the flagship's display specs on Weibo, revealing a custom 6.78-inch BOE X5 LTPO OLED panel with a 1.5K resolution and a refresh rate that starts at 185Hz and scales up to 240Hz. The phone will reportedly use LIPO packaging to shrink bezels under 1mm on all sides, matching the ultra-slim bezel trend spreading across Android flagships. The jump from the OnePlus 15's 165Hz peak (already limited to select gaming scenarios) to a full dynamic range hitting 240Hz represents more than just a spec bump. ASUS has pulled back from the phone market, thinning out the high-refresh-rate gaming niche.

OnePlus appears to be stepping into that gap without adopting a full gaming aesthetic.

Powering that display is Qualcomm's yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro (SM8975), part of a new tiered chip strategy where Pro variants target "Ultra-level" devices. The OnePlus 16 is also expected to support LPDDR6 RAM, placing it alongside premium flagships rather than the upper mid-premium segment where the OnePlus 15 competed. The visual experience comes with a power cost. A nearly 9,000 mAh battery with 120W wired and 50W wireless charging is reportedly in development to offset the higher draw from that aggressive refresh rate.

Earlier rumors pointed to dual 200MP cameras on the OnePlus 16, though more recent leaks suggest a triple setup with a 50MP primary, a 50MP ultrawide, and a single 200MP periscope telephoto. Camera consistency was a noted weak point on the OnePlus 15, which delivered strong battery and performance but only "good" camera results. The OnePlus 16 is expected to launch in China in October 2026, followed by an India release in November, matching the OnePlus 15 timeline. Pricing is tipped around CNY 5,000 (roughly Rs 69,000), about CNY 1,000 above its predecessor.
