Google Meet is expanding speech translation to 63 languages on the web, Android and iOS, powered by Gemini 3.5 Live Translate. Google says participants can mix supported languages within a meeting, replacing the previous requirement to select one language pair for everyone.

Rapid Release rollout began October 22, with visibility taking one to three days; Scheduled Release rollout starts November 2 and can take 15 days. Mobile users must update their app, and feature visibility and synchronized captions may vary initially.

Meet detects spoken languages automatically, including when speakers switch languages, and translates into listeners’ preferred languages in near real time, Google says. Participants enable translation through a toolbar control, can exclude languages they understand, and receive captions matching translated audio.

An eligible organizer’s plan extends access to everyone attending, including outside guests; either person’s eligible plan covers both sides of a direct call. Eligible base Workspace plans and Google AI Pro allow up to 90 minutes per meeting, versus up to eight hours with Google AI Ultra, AI Expanded Access or AI Ultra Access.

Eligible subscriptions include Business Plus, Business Standard, Enterprise Plus, Enterprise Standard, Frontline Plus, Google AI Ultra and Google AI Pro, alongside Google AI Pro for Education and both Access add-ons. Conference-room Google Meet hardware supports listening to remote translated speech, but cannot translate room speech for others.

Translation excludes recordings, live streams, adaptive audio, client-side encrypted meetings, dial-in connections and third-party interoperability calls. Regional and age restrictions also apply.

Admin access defaults to enabled when Gemini for Meet is enabled, with organizational-unit and group controls; participants start each meeting with translation disabled. Users control whether others receive translations of their speech through Meet settings, and Google says it neither retains voice data nor uses it for model training.
