Bluesky users can now check account strikes and challenge moderation decisions inside the app through its moderation inbox, available in beta today. The feature gathers reports users submit, enforcement notices and appeals, while introducing a view of account standing that shows whether permanent suspension is a risk. Access requires users to enable beta features in Settings.
To join, open Settings, choose Beta features and select Enable beta features. After that, go to Moderation tools within Settings and tap Moderation inbox, which appears at the top. Bluesky says it plans to fix problems during the beta before making the feature generally available.
The inbox initially has no entries, including for users whose accounts already carry strikes. Existing account standing instead appears through an account status banner; users without a banner are in good standing.
Submitting a report to Bluesky creates an entry in the inbox, followed by an update after review indicating whether Bluesky acted. Bluesky asks users to include a comment explaining the suspected Community Guidelines violation to help it assess reports. Users can also see moderation decisions affecting their own posts or accounts and appeal them from the inbox.
Suspension appeals remain accessible through the app’s login screen because suspended users cannot enter their accounts. The account status view shows accumulated strikes and whether they put an account near permanent suspension. Bluesky says strikes expire over time and plans to provide further details about how its strike system works.
Previously, Bluesky relied mainly on email for moderation messages, largely restricting notices to serious decisions such as removing accounts or content. It says the volume of adult-content labels meant users usually received no accompanying message. Bluesky also says it previously could not contact people using independent servers, while the inbox reaches anyone using its app.
During the beta, notifications for the moderation inbox are enabled automatically. Users can separately switch alerts for account notices, labels applied to posts and report updates on or off. Bluesky says it hopes that keeping this information in one place will make its enforcement decisions easier for users to interpret and to contest.
