Salesforce has signed an agreement to buy Rune Technologies, whose software helps military teams plan supplies and transport even when network connections are unreliable or unavailable. Salesforce plans to add the technology to Missionforce, extending its defense software into logistics decisions made by frontline units. Rune Technologies already has deployments with the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps.

Salesforce expects the transaction to close during its fiscal 2027 fourth quarter, provided customary conditions are met. The purchase price was not disclosed. Salesforce says the deal would be its most significant acquisition aimed at national security, alongside a defense business it says is growing 80% from a year earlier.

Rune Technologies combines data held in enterprise software with current information from military operations to estimate demand and replenishment requirements. Its models can suggest how to distribute resources and route transportation, while helping teams assess logistics plans both ahead of operations and while they are underway. The platform can work through disrupted connections and synchronize information after network access returns.

Salesforce says the planned integration would carry decisions made in the field into the enterprise records systems used by military services without requiring custom integration. It also intends to keep personnel information, maintenance tasks and sustainment planning connected across formations at home bases, on deployment or under emissions restrictions. Those capabilities would complement Missionforce Operations, which automates enterprise processes.

The acquisition would expand a defense business whose customers include every one of the U.S. military’s six branches, according to Salesforce. That business recently secured an Army agreement running for 10 years, with spending capped at $5.6 billion, to update operations. Rune Technologies was founded in 2024 by David Tuttle and Peter Goldsborough, whose backgrounds include leadership roles at Anduril.

The military logistics deal follows Salesforce’s October 12 agreement to acquire Loops, which monitors business performance and uses machine learning to explain changes in metrics. For that purchase, Salesforce planned to bring the technology and specialist employees into Tableau after closing, giving the two acquisitions different destinations within its software portfolio.
