Spam calls and unwanted messages are a constant annoyance, but your Xiaomi 14T Pro running HyperOS has several built-in tools to block them. Once you block a number, they can't call or text you through the standard phone and messaging apps. Here's how to do it and manage your blocked list on this specific device.

Block a Number from Your Call Log

Open the Phone app and tap the Recents tab. Find the number you want to block, then tap and hold on the entry. A menu will pop up. Select Block from this list. Confirm your choice, and calls from this number will be silently rejected going forward. This is usually the quickest method.

Block a Contact from the Messages App

If you're getting spam texts, open the Messages app. Find the conversation from the unwanted number and open it. Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner, then select Details. On the contact details screen, tap Block & report spam. This will stop all future messages and calls from that number from reaching you.

Block Directly from Your Contacts List

For someone already in your address book, open the Contacts app. Find and tap on the person's name to open their contact card. Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner and select Block numbers. This action blocks every phone number associated with that contact. It's a clean way to cut off all communication.

View and Manage Your Blocked List

To see who you've blocked or to unblock someone, go to your phone's main Settings. Scroll down and tap on Apps, then select Manage apps. Find and tap on the Phone app in the list. Inside its app info, tap App permissions. Here, you'll find the Blocked numbers section where you can view, add, or remove numbers from the block list. The path can feel a bit buried in HyperOS, but this is where it lives.

Enable Built-in Spam Protection

Your Xiaomi 14T Pro comes with MIUI/HyperOS call protection. To turn it on, open the Phone app and tap the three-dot menu in the top-right. Go to Settings > Call blocking & identification. Toggle on Caller ID & spam protection. With this enabled, your phone will use a database to identify and warn you about suspected spam or fraud calls before you answer. Some regional variants may have this feature enabled by default.

Silence Calls from Unknown Numbers

If you want to avoid all calls from people not in your contacts, you can use the "Do Not Disturb" feature in a specific way. Go to Settings > Sound & vibration > Do Not Disturb. Turn it on, then tap Settings next to the toggle. Under Calls & messages, tap Calls. Here, you can set it to allow calls only from your contacts. Calls from unknown numbers will be silenced, though they can still leave a voicemail.

What Actually Happens When You Block

When you block a number on your Xiaomi 14T Pro, the caller typically hears the phone ring once or twice before being sent to voicemail. They won't receive any specific notification that they've been blocked. Text messages from a blocked number are silently discarded and will never appear in your Messages app. I've found this works consistently across carriers.

Deal with Spam from Other Apps

For spam coming through other channels like email, you'll need to use that app's settings. In Gmail, for example, open the spam email, tap the three-dot menu, and select Block [sender]. For unwanted notifications from pre-installed apps, a common tip for the 14T Pro is to go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps, find the app, and disable its notifications or uninstall it if possible to reduce bloatware annoyances.

Consider a Third-Party Call Blocker

For the most aggressive protection, you can install an app like Truecaller from the Google Play Store. These apps maintain massive, crowdsourced databases of spam numbers and can block them automatically before your phone even rings. During setup, they'll ask for permission to manage your calls, which you must grant for system-wide filtering. They can also identify unknown callers by name, which is handy.
