Spam calls and unwanted messages are a universal annoyance, but your Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 has several built-in tools to shut them down. Whether it's a persistent telemarketer or an unknown number, you can block them directly from your call log, messages, or contacts app. Once blocked, they can't reach you with calls or standard SMS texts.
Block a Number from Your Recent Calls
Open the Phone app and tap the Recents tab at the bottom. Find the number you want to block in the list. Tap and hold on the entry until a menu pops up, then select Block number. You'll be asked to confirm, and that's it. Future calls from this number will be silently rejected.
On the Z Flip 6, you can also tap the i (info) icon next to the recent call to open its details page. From there, tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner and choose Block number. This method gives you the option to also report it as spam, which helps improve Samsung's community filter.
Block Someone from a Text Message
If the spam is coming via text, open the Messages app. Find and open the conversation from the number you want to block. Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner of the screen. From the menu, select Block number and confirm. You won't receive any future messages from that sender.
Another way is to tap the contact name or number at the top of the conversation thread. This opens the contact details. Scroll down and you'll find the Block option there. I find this method is sometimes quicker if you're already in the middle of a frustrating text thread.
Block a Contact from Your Address Book
To block someone you've saved, open the Contacts app. Find and tap on the person's name to open their contact card. Tap the three-dot menu button, usually in the top right corner. Select Block contact from the list. This action blocks every phone number listed for that contact, which is useful if someone tries calling from multiple lines.
Manage Your Entire Blocked List
To see who you've blocked or to unblock a number, go to your Phone app and tap the three-line menu icon. Select Settings, then tap Block numbers. You'll see your complete blocked list here. To remove a number, just tap the red minus icon next to it. You can also manually type a number into the field at the top of this screen to add it directly to the block list.
Turn On Automatic Spam Protection
Your Z Flip 6 has powerful automatic filtering. Go to Phone app > Settings > Caller ID and spam protection. Make sure the main toggle is switched on. This enables Samsung's Smart Call feature, which identifies unknown businesses and flags suspected spam.
On the same screen, look for the option labeled Block spam and scam calls and turn it on. When this is active, calls identified as high-risk spam by the network or Samsung's database are blocked automatically before your phone even rings. It's a set-it-and-forget-it solution that catches a lot of junk.
Silence All Unknown Callers
If you only want calls from people in your contacts, you can enable a stricter block. Navigate to Phone app > Settings > Block numbers. On this screen, toggle on Block calls from unknown numbers. With this enabled, any call from a number not saved in your contacts will be sent directly to voicemail without ringing your phone.
This is a great option if you're getting a barrage of spam, but remember it will also block legitimate calls from doctors' offices, delivery drivers, or anyone not in your address book. They can still leave a voicemail, which you'll see a notification for.
What Actually Happens When You Block
When you block a number on your Galaxy Z Flip 6, the caller typically hears a few rings and then is sent to your voicemail. On some carrier networks, they might hear a busy signal or a message that the line is unavailable. The key point is they aren't notified they've been specifically blocked.
On your end, blocked calls won't show up as missed calls in your Recents list. Blocked text messages are silently deleted and you won't receive any notification. I've found that on the Z Flip 6, the blocked call log is clean, which helps reduce the anxiety of seeing constant missed call alerts.
Report Spam Texts to Your Carrier
You can help fight spam at the network level. When you receive a spam text, you can forward the message to 7726 (which spells "SPAM"). This number works with most major US carriers like T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon. Just open the message, tap and hold the text body, select "Forward," and enter 7726 as the recipient.
After sending, you'll usually get an automated reply asking for the phone number that sent the spam. Replying with that number completes the report. It only takes a moment and contributes to a larger database that helps protect other users.
Consider a Dedicated Call Blocker App
For the heaviest spam filters, you can look to the Google Play Store. Apps like Truecaller or the standalone Hiya app maintain massive, crowdsourced databases of spam numbers. They often identify more spam calls than the built-in system and can be configured for very aggressive blocking.
After installing, you'll need to grant the app permission to manage your calls during its setup process. These apps can also provide enhanced caller ID for unknown numbers. If you're using the Z Flip 6's cover screen a lot, check that the app you choose has good support for the external display through Samsung's Labs settings.
