Screen recording on your Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is a powerful tool built right into One UI 7. It lets you capture anything on that stunning display, from high-performance gameplay to important video calls or step-by-step tutorials you want to share.

Start a Recording from Quick Settings

Swipe down twice from the top of your screen to pull up the full Quick Settings panel. Look for the Screen recorder tile, which looks like a circle with a dot inside. If you don't see it immediately, swipe left on the panel or tap the Edit button (often a pencil icon) to add it from the list of available tiles.

Tap the Screen recorder tile once. A menu will pop up from the bottom of your screen, letting you configure your audio before you begin.

Configure Your Audio Source

Before the countdown starts, you need to choose what sound gets recorded. You have three clear options here. Selecting No sound will capture a silent video of your screen. The Media sounds option records audio coming from your phone, like game sounds or music from a streaming app.

For commentary or voiceovers, pick Media sounds and mic. This records both the phone's audio and your voice through the microphone. After making your choice, tap Start recording. You'll get a three-second countdown to navigate to the app or screen you want to capture.

Use the Floating Controls During Recording

Once recording is live, a small, semi-transparent toolbar will appear on your screen. It has buttons to pause or stop the recording, a timer, and a pencil icon for drawing. You can drag this toolbar anywhere on the screen to keep it out of your way.

If you're recording something intensive and notice the phone getting warm, it might be the Snapdragon 8 Elite managing its thermals. This is normal, but pausing the recording for a moment can let it cool down.

Annotate with the S Pen While Recording

This is where the S25 Ultra's S Pen shines. Tap the pencil icon on the floating toolbar to start drawing directly on your screen live. You can change pen colors and tip size. It's perfect for circling important UI elements or highlighting text in a tutorial.

Just make sure your S Pen has charge. I've found the best way to keep it ready is to simply store it in its slot on the phone when you're not using it, as it charges wirelessly there.

Finish and Save Your Video

To end the recording, tap the Stop button (the square icon) on the floating toolbar. You can also swipe down to see your notifications and tap the "Screen recorder is recording" notification to stop it. The video will process for a second and then save automatically to your Gallery app.

Trim and Edit Your Recording

Open the Gallery app and look for your video in the "Screen recordings" album. Tap to play it, then tap the Edit button (it looks like a pencil). From here, you can trim the clip's length, adjust the playback speed, or add background music. The editing tools in One UI 7 are quite robust for quick tweaks.

Customize the Recorder's Behavior

For more control, dive into the settings. Go to Settings > Advanced features > Screenshots and screen recorder. Here, you can change the video quality and frame rate, which is useful if you need to save storage space.

You can also toggle Show touches on, which displays a white circle wherever you tap the screen. This is incredibly helpful for creating clear instructional videos. You can even set a picture-in-picture size for your selfie camera if you want your face in the corner of the recording.

Understand the Recording Limitations

Due to copyright protection, most premium streaming apps like Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video will block screen recording. You'll typically just get a black screen in the video. For security reasons, banking apps and secure payment screens will also prevent recording.

Almost everything else is fair game: your own photos and videos, web browsers, games, and standard apps will record without any issue on your S25 Ultra.
