When the predictive text on your POCO X7 Pro stops working, it can turn simple typing into a chore. You might find that word suggestions have vanished, autocorrect is making bizarre changes, or the keyboard feels less responsive than usual. The good news is that this is almost always a software hiccup that you can fix yourself.
I'd start with a quick restart of your phone. It's the simplest fix and often clears up temporary glitches in HyperOS 2 that can affect the keyboard. Just press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds until you see the POCO logo appear on the screen.
Clear the Gboard App Cache and Data
Since the POCO X7 Pro uses Google's Gboard as its default keyboard, the first technical step is to clear its cache. This removes temporary files that might have become corrupted. Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps. Find and tap on Gboard in your list of apps.
Tap on Storage usage at the bottom, then select Clear cache. This won't delete any of your personal dictionary words or settings. If the problem persists after this, you can go back to the same storage menu and choose Clear data. Be aware this will reset Gboard to its default settings, so you'll need to re-enable features and grant permissions.
Check Your Gboard Predictive Text Settings
Sometimes a setting has simply been turned off by accident. Open any app that lets you type, like Messages or Notes, and bring up the keyboard. Tap the gear icon at the top of Gboard to open its settings directly.
Navigate to Text correction. Here, make sure the toggle for Show suggestion strip is enabled. Right below it, also ensure Next-word suggestions is turned on. These are the core controls for predictive text on your device.
Update Your Language and Gboard App
An outdated language pack can break predictions. In the Gboard settings, go to Languages. Tap on the language you're using, for example, English (US). Make sure it's downloaded and selected. You can also tap the three-dot menu and check for updates for that specific language.
Next, head to the Google Play Store and search for Gboard. If an update is available, install it. Updates frequently include bug fixes for prediction and autocorrect issues, especially for newer Android versions like Android 15.
Reset Gboard to Its Default Settings
If you've tweaked a lot of settings and aren't sure what changed, a full reset can be the fastest path back to normal. Open Gboard settings and scroll all the way down to the bottom. Tap on Advanced.
In the Advanced menu, you'll find the option to Reset Gboard preferences or Delete learned words. Tapping reset will return all of Gboard's settings to factory defaults, which often resolves persistent prediction problems.
Try a Different Keyboard Temporarily
This is a great way to figure out if the issue is with Gboard specifically or with the system software. Install another keyboard from the Play Store, like Microsoft SwiftKey, and set it as your default input method in Settings > Additional settings > Languages & input > Current keyboard.
If predictive text works perfectly on the new keyboard, you know the problem is isolated to Gboard. You can then focus on the Gboard-specific fixes, or simply stick with the new keyboard if you prefer it. The large, vibrant screen of the X7 Pro works well with any modern keyboard app.
