A Redditor has posted convincing photos of a prototype Xbox controller that appears to be the unannounced Xbox Elite Series 3, and the standout addition is a built-in screen. The legit-looking prototype photos show the pad with an integrated display, a feature that had not surfaced in earlier leaks of the accessory.
The controller closely resembles the Xbox Elite Series 2 overall but with key differences. One photo shows the screen running an animation of a spaceship flying toward an Xbox Series X console, which could indicate the display is used to show the controller's pairing status.
The leak also provides one of the most complete looks at the Elite Series 2 successor yet, with the Redditor claiming they bought the pad for $200 on OfferUp.
There's a catch: the poster says they haven't been able to pair the controller with any of their consoles, prompting speculation that it could be a special developer unit requiring a registered Xbox dev account. The prototype carries "NOT FOR SALE" labels on both the pad and its removable battery, along with placeholder ID numbers for regulatory bodies.
The leak follows earlier exposure of the unannounced controller, and The Verge's Tom Warren reports his sources believe the Elite Series 3 is still coming later this year. Until Microsoft makes an official announcement, the screen and other features remain unconfirmed prototype details.
