T-Mobile is giving away iPhone 17 Pros with no trade-in required during Prime Day, and the offer extends to the entire current iPhone lineup, including the iPhone Air and iPhone 17e. The catch is a 24-month commitment. T-Mobile offsets the full retail price through monthly bill credits, meaning your statement shows a charge for the phone followed by an equal credit that zeroes it out.
Switch carriers or upgrade early, and the remaining balance comes due immediately. Here is what is available and what it costs: iPhone 17 Pro (256GB), Free when switching to T-Mobile on an Experience More or Experience Beyond plan, no trade-in required. Normally $1,099.
Comes in Deep Blue, Silver, or Cosmic Orange. Want the 512GB or 1TB version?
You pay the difference, which Vice reports works out to $8.33 or $16.66 per month.
iPhone 17, Free when switching on the same plans, no trade-in needed.
iPhone 17e, Free when porting your number from a competitor and activating on almost any T-Mobile postpaid plan.
iPhone Air, Free when switching to T-Mobile, again with no trade-in required.
All offers come with a $35 device connection charge and applicable taxes due upfront. The timing is strategic. Prime Day is underway, and Amazon rarely offers meaningful iPhone discounts.
T-Mobile is filling that gap by effectively giving away phones to new subscribers. The carrier is also running what it calls "Magenta Month" for June, with weekly sweepstakes, gas rewards, free Slurpees at 7-Eleven, and free drinks on Delta flights. For existing T-Mobile customers, the deal is less generous.
Trade-ins are required for upgrades on current lines. The no-trade-in perk is reserved for switchers and new lines.
ZDNET's Alison Denisco Rayome noted the offers cover "iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17e, or iPhone Air free when you switch to certain T-Mobile plans." Mashable's Joseph Green described the terms simply: "Your monthly statement will show a charge for the financing of the phone, immediately followed by an equal credit balancing that charge to $0."
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro in September, but Vice noted there are "no credible rumors that it will be that much of a revolutionary departure" from the iPhone 17 Pro. For anyone needing a phone now, the math is straightforward: a free iPhone 17 Pro for 24 months of service on a premium plan.
