ServiceNow and OpenAI are expanding their partnership so IT staff can investigate problems and change ServiceNow records through ChatGPT, while developers get a planned Codex connection for building applications. The ServiceNow MCP plugin is already available through the OpenAI marketplace, with improvements expected before 2026 ends. The broader rollout stretches into 2027, including application development and security capabilities.

OpenAI says the ChatGPT integration will let an IT worker look up comparable incidents, evaluate a proposed change’s risk and modify a record within a conversation. Customers will link their own ServiceNow instance and select the functions they want to expose. Action Fabric will enforce the organization’s existing permissions and business rules, limiting actions according to each customer’s settings and access controls.

The companies expect their security offering to reach early access in January 2027, followed by general availability during that year’s second quarter. OpenAI expects Codex to reach AI Workflow Factory sometime in 2027, while voice features for Super Intelligence Control Tower are due during the first quarter.

For developers, the planned Codex connection will use ServiceNow platform capabilities and business context to help create applications. OpenAI models will also underpin Build Agent and Autonomous Engineer for development and modernization work. The security collaboration will pair OpenAI capabilities with ServiceNow information about assets, identities and business operations to support vulnerability investigations, risk ranking and coordinated fixes.

ServiceNow is previewing interactive ChatGPT experiences, including one where an on-call engineer examines related alerts, service impacts and recent changes before assigning a team to address the problem. The planned voice experience will let users explain an AI use case aloud, with the system filling assessment fields and asking questions to obtain missing details.

ServiceNow also intends to extend ChatGPT Work and Codex access beyond engineering to its entire workforce and use OpenAI technology for internal security tasks. OpenAI, meanwhile, uses ServiceNow workflows for its operations with support from Super Intelligence Control Tower.

The expansion follows another enterprise agreement in February, when Snowflake signed a multiyear OpenAI partnership worth $200 million to integrate GPT-5.2 and additional models into its data platform. That arrangement made OpenAI a primary model supplier for Cortex AI, serving Snowflake’s 12,600 customers worldwide.
