Onyx Boox has introduced the Note Mini C, a compact ePaper notebook built around an 8.52-inch HD color display. The company pitches the size as suited to reading and marking up PDFs with one hand, a narrower footprint than the 10.3-inch Note Air6 C it announced earlier this month. The device runs Android 16 and ships with the Google Play Store, so users can install apps beyond the built-in reader.
The hardware is aimed at portability. The Note Mini C measures 6mm thick and weighs roughly 300g. Inside is an octa-core processor running at up to 2.9 GHz, paired with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage. A microSD slot accepts cards up to 2TB for anyone who needs more room.
The screen uses color ePaper with BOOX Super Refresh, the same refresh technology Onyx Boox put in the Note Air6 C. Front lighting is adjustable by color temperature. Input comes through the InkSight stylus, and files can move between devices over BOOXDrop.
The Note Mini C follows the Note Air6 C, a 10.3-inch color ePaper notebook that Onyx Boox said was 40 percent faster than the Note Air5 C. That larger model also runs Android 16, supports the Pen3 stylus and Keyboard Cover, and adds a fingerprint sensor in the power button. Its NeoReader software handles more than 20 document formats, and Onyx Boox said its latest firmware added Talk Insights and Dual Notes alongside split-screen multitasking.
The two devices share a software foundation. Both run Android 16 with the Google Play Store, and the Note Air6 C also supports Readwise and Zotero, according to Onyx Boox. Onyx Boox has not said whether the Note Mini C carries the same integrations.
What the announcement leaves open is availability. Onyx Boox did not disclose what the Note Mini C will cost, when it will go on sale, or which markets will receive it. The same gaps surrounded the Note Air6 C, whose price, release date and regions were also left unstated at launch.
The Note Mini C's appeal rests on the trade between screen size and portability. At 8.52 inches it is smaller than the Note Air6 C, but it keeps the color ePaper panel, Android app support and stylus input that define the line. Buyers who want a one-handed PDF device will have to wait for pricing and a ship date before deciding whether the smaller frame is worth it.
