Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 launches November 6, bringing three Multiplayer maps, Grind and Drop Zone, and the X01 weapons facility for DMZ. The PlayStation Blog announcement bills it as the game’s first free content update.

The launch maps are Backstab, Canyon and a reworked Shoot House. Backstab has abandoned tanks across a battlefield with bad weather, while Canyon offers routes beside a river and along cliffs. Shoot House moves the fighting to snowy terrain in North Korea.

Grind also arrives at launch. Players collect dog tags from eliminated opponents and deposit them at a Bank for team points. Drop Zone returns alongside it, with teams contesting an objective that changes position and periodic Killstreak packages falling over the zone.

In DMZ, X01 combines tunnels and changing hazards with extraction points that begin closing. Escaping requires players to complete specific steps. New DMZ Orders, Threat Briefing tasks aimed at major Boss threats and Resupply Runs also feature.

The Battle Pass adds the Cronen Osprey Assault Rifle and CSG-35 SMG. Activision describes the rifle as quick with moderate power, while the SMG has its class’s fastest firing rate for close-range fights. The pass contains 100-plus unlockable items and a linear track of 100 tiers. Those tiers include rewards such as Operator Skins, Weapon Blueprints and Finishing Moves.

A new premium Battle Pass catch-up system guarantees purchasers 50-plus rewards. Players who fall behind are automatically brought to the reward corresponding to the season’s current day, through day 50. Logging in collects those rewards, while continued play unlocks additional content along the track.
