Marvel's Wolverine lands on PS5 on September 15, and Sony has put the game's creative team forward to explain how they approached Logan. The group includes creative director Marcus Smith, game director Mike Daly, senior art director Grant Hollis, senior animation director Brian Wyser, and narrative director Walt Williams. Liam McIntyre provides the voice of Logan.
Players should expect something tighter and rougher than Insomniac's Spider-Man games. The developers describe Wolverine as more grounded and visceral, and say it keeps the player closer to the world around them, unlike the open-world Spider-Man games. Combat is built around claws, blood, destruction, and damage, with Logan written as a reluctant hero who fights like a tank and moves in a messier, clumsier way than a typical superhero lead.

The character design leans on the Battle Reborn suit, which the team describes as having a tactical edge. Its colors are yellow with more black than brown, drawing on the brown and yellow look of the 1980s as well as the yellow and blue with red. Real-world military and motorcycle armor informed the outfit.
Logan's history shapes the story. He has dedicated his life to Team X and to protecting mutants, who are treated as science experiments and then tossed away. Allies and foes in the game include Sabretooth, Mystique, and Jean Grey. Mystique holds a very different outlook throughout the game, which Smith says he hopes will surprise players, and fans in particular, while Jean Grey shares his sense of obligation to protect the vulnerable. Enemies also include the Reavers, described as hyper-lethal cyborg mercenaries, and the Hand, who bring ancient tactics and deadly weapons.
The reveal follows a noisy summer for the game. The "Ain't No Hero" cinematic trailer, released July 16, showed Lady Deathstrike and a Sabretooth in the classic yellow suit, and drew more than 1 million views and nearly 5,000 comments. The top YouTube comment objected to Sony's disc decision and collected over 10,000 likes. Sony plans to stop producing physical discs for new games in January 2028, with existing disc libraries still usable, new releases going digital-only, and retail boxes carrying download codes. A Change.org petition passed 172,000 signatures in about six days.
Wolverine is a PS5 exclusive. Separately, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls could not be bought on Steam in 132 countries because of a PSN requirement earlier this year. McIntyre discussed the role on episode 547 of the Official PlayStation Podcast, which also covered State of Play and State of Play Japan announcements.
