LG Electronics unveiled its 2026 Gram laptop lineup ahead of CES 2026, introducing a proprietary magnesium-aluminum alloy called Aerominum that reduces weight while reinforcing structural strength. The new material meets military-grade durability standards and improves scratch resistance for the ultra-portable series.
The Gram Pro 17 (model 17Z90UR) claims the title of world's lightest 17-inch RTX laptop, packing an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 Laptop GPU with 8GB GDDR7 memory into a chassis comparable to typical 16-inch machines. Its 17-inch WQXGA (2,560 x 1,600) LCD display targets creators needing graphics power without bulk. This model will be sold exclusively in North America.
The Gram Pro 16 (model 16Z90U) establishes itself as the lightest 16-inch laptop in its class with dual AI capabilities, featuring a 16-inch WQXGA+ (2,880 x 1,800) OLED display powered by Intel Core Ultra processors. Both models incorporate LG's advanced dual AI strategy combining Microsoft Copilot+ PC with LG's on-device Gram Chat AI powered by the EXAONE 3.5 small language model.
Select 2026 Gram models support both on-device and cloud-based AI features, enabling document summarization, contextual searches, and data recovery tools like Time Travel without internet connectivity. The hybrid approach provides fast, private AI assistance while maintaining access to cloud services for complex operations.
Enhanced Gram Link enables seamless file sharing, screen mirroring, and content transfer across Android, iOS, and webOS-based LG devices including TVs, monitors, and projectors. LG ThinQ adds security features allowing users to remotely lock or erase lost laptops to protect sensitive data.
"The 2026 LG gram represents a new milestone in our decade-long pursuit of ultimate portability," said Lee Choong-hwoan, head of Display Business at LG Media Entertainment Solution Company. "With Aerominum, we have successfully solved the paradox of weight versus durability, creating a premium metallic look that is both incredibly light and exceptionally durable."
Aerominum's aerospace-inspired composition fuses magnesium's low density with aluminum's rigidity, delivering a premium metallic finish through aeroplate structure and atelier brushing. The material addresses long-standing durability concerns in ultra-light laptops while maintaining the Gram series' minimalist aesthetic.
LG will showcase the complete 2026 Gram lineup at CES 2026 starting January 6, with wider availability expected shortly after. The company has not yet announced pricing or global availability details for the refreshed models beyond the North America-exclusive Gram Pro 17 variant.
