Google Translate is rolling out two upgrades for iOS and Android that make live translations easier to use while doing other things. Google says Android users can leave a session going in the background while they switch to other apps or lock the screen.
On iOS, support for background live translations is coming soon, and Google says the earpiece option is already available to users everywhere. The earpiece feature, already available on Android, lets you hold the phone to your ear to hear translations without needing headphones. It is designed for situations like noisy airports or crowded tours.

Live translate currently supports more than 70 languages. Google did not disclose pricing or an availability date for the new features, nor did it mention offline translation, additional languages, or changes to existing features.
Earlier this year, Google also rolled out fixes and new features for its other apps, such as a Gemini bug fix that blocked calls on Android and Android Auto, and Google Meet audio-only calls on Android Auto.
