Avengers Endgame: Encore, the re-release of the 2019 Marvel Studios film, opened as the No. 1 global release this weekend with an estimated $86 million at the box office, Disney said. Domestic audiences accounted for $26 million of that total, with $60 million coming from international markets. The studio called it the estimated second highest global debut of all time for a re-release.
The weekend pushed Marvel Studios to $35.075 billion in box office revenue across its 38 films, which Disney describes as the most successful film franchise in history. The cumulative gross for Avengers: Endgame now stands at $2.885 billion, good for No. 2 on the all-time list and $39 million behind 20th Century Studios' Avatar.
The encore presentation played in more than 3,000 theaters, including over 1,300 Infinity Vision screens, a new certification for premium large format auditoriums that Disney says requires laser projection, premium audio and the largest screens. Those Infinity Vision locations generated about 52% of the opening weekend figure. The release also includes new footage that sets up the next Avengers film.
Moviegoers who attended got an early look at Avengers: Doomsday, which arrives in theaters December 18. Anthony and Joe Russo, who directed Endgame, return to direct, and Robert Downey Jr. appears as Doctor Doom rather than Tony Stark. Anthony Russo told Marvel.com that the team did not want to alter the original film, saying, "We weren’t going to mess with what that movie is."
The original Avengers: Endgame opened in 2019 with $1.2 billion worldwide, the first and only MPA film to clear $1 billion globally in its opening weekend. The re-release holds a 96% Verified Moviegoer score on Rotten Tomatoes across more than 1,000 ratings, and PostTrak polling shows 5 out of 5 stars from general and family audiences.
The weekend follows a strong summer for Disney, which said in early September that The Walt Disney Studios had surpassed $4 billion at the global box office so far in 2026 on the strength of releases including Toy Story 5 and Moana. Disney has not disclosed a production budget for the encore cut or how long the theatrical run will last.
