To unlink Instagram accounts, open Instagram’s Profile > Menu > Accounts Center > Accounts, select Remove beside the account you want to separate, and complete the prompts. If your profile uses the newer Meta Account interface, open Manage account > Manage > Move out of this Meta Account instead. Removing saved logins, disconnecting a Facebook Page, and stopping automatic sharing require separate controls.

The short version

  • Separate accounts: Use Remove in Accounts Center to unlink accounts grouped there.
  • New Meta Account: Select Move out of this Meta Account for a profile managed through the newer interface.
  • Prepare your login: Complete any password creation prompts so the separated account has its own login.
  • Remove a phone login: Log out and remove the remembered profile separately when you want it off that device.
  • Stop sharing only: Turn off the relevant connected experience when you want to keep accounts connected.

On iPhone or Android, open Instagram and go to Profile > Menu > Accounts Center. Select Accounts, which may appear as Manage accounts, then choose Remove beside the account you want to separate. Complete the confirmation screens and repeat for any additional accounts you want to unlink.

Complete any password creation prompts during removal. Meta may require an independent password when you separate an Instagram account originally created through Facebook. This route separates Instagram accounts from one another or from other accounts in the same Accounts Center.

If your profile has moved to the newer interface, open Meta Account settings and select Manage account. Select Manage beside the Instagram profile, choose Move out of this Meta Account, and complete the subsequent prompts. Meta is rolling out this interface by location and individual account, so use the route that matches your settings.

If you cannot find the older Logging in with accounts control, use account removal instead. Meta is retiring that control and directs you to move an account out to disable login access.

If you want to stop using the account itself, follow the separate steps to deactivate your Instagram account or delete your Instagram account. For account separation, use the account connection controls above.

To use a browser, sign in to Accounts Center at accountscenter.facebook.com on your phone, tablet, or computer. Select Accounts or Manage accounts, then choose Remove beside the account. Complete the confirmation and any password prompts.

From Instagram’s desktop website, select More > Settings > Accounts Center. Open Accounts or Manage accounts, select Remove beside the account you want to unlink, and complete the prompts.

You can also remove the connection through Facebook when the accounts share the same Accounts Center. In the Facebook app, open Menu > Settings & privacy > Settings > Accounts Center > Accounts. Select Remove beside the Instagram account, choose Remove account, and complete the prompts.

On Facebook’s desktop website, select your profile picture > Settings & privacy > Settings > Accounts Center > Accounts. Choose Remove for the account you want to separate. A Facebook Page connection is separate from this Accounts Center membership.

Remove saved logins and device sessions

Logging out ends local access without separating Accounts Center membership. To log out of the current Instagram account on your phone, open Profile > Menu. Scroll to Login, then select Log out for that account.

To remove a remembered profile, go to the Instagram app’s login screen and select Options > Remove profiles from this device. Choose Remove beside the unwanted account. Meta says this login screen feature is not available to everyone.

To end sessions on other devices, open Accounts Center > Password and security > Where you're logged in. Select the Instagram account and choose Select devices to log out. Select the devices, then choose Log out.

If the newer session setting is unavailable on Android, open Profile > Menu > Security > Login Activity. Select Options beside the session, then Log out. On a computer, use More > Settings > Login Activity, then select More beside the session and Log out.

Stop sharing or syncing without unlinking

To stop automatic Facebook posts while keeping your accounts connected, open Instagram’s Profile > Menu > Accounts Center > Connected experiences > Sharing across profiles. Select the Share from and Share to accounts. Turn off Your Instagram posts.

For a creator or business account connected to a Facebook Page, open your Instagram profile and select Menu > Crossposting. Under Share to Facebook as, select Meta Account to open Sharing across profiles, then select the Page. Under Automatically share, turn off the relevant switches for posts, story, and reels.

Meta says you can turn off sharing to Facebook for an individual professional account post, story or reel even after you set up automatic sharing. When you create a post or reel, the toggle next to your Facebook Page appears under Also share on... before you publish.

To stop profile information syncing in the app, open Profile > Menu > Accounts Center > Profiles. On Instagram’s website, use More > Settings > Accounts Center > Profiles. Select the Facebook or Instagram profile, then select its name again. If more than two profiles are present, select the paired profile before turning off Sync profile info.

To hide displayed profile links on your phone, open Accounts Center > Showing links for your profiles. On a computer, open Accounts Center > Connected experiences > Showing links for your profiles. Select the profile displaying the links and turn off the unwanted profile link switches. This changes the displayed links without separating shared login access.

If your Accounts Center includes a Meta account and the supported Horizon setting, open Following people on Horizon. Turn off the toggle beside your Instagram account. This stops automatic follow requests to your Instagram connections without separating the accounts.

Disconnect a Facebook Page

To disconnect through your professional Instagram profile, tap Profile or your profile picture to go to your profile. Scroll to Public business information for a business account, or Profile information for a creator account, then select Page > Disconnect Page. Disconnecting the Page can affect business features.

On Facebook’s desktop website, select your profile picture > See all profiles, then choose the Page. Select the Page’s profile picture > Settings & privacy > Settings. Under Permissions, select Linked accounts > Instagram > Disconnect account > Yes, disconnect. You need the necessary Facebook or task access to the Page.

In the Facebook app, select Menu > Options, choose the Page, then open Menu again. On Android, select Settings & Privacy > Settings > Linked accounts > Instagram > Disconnect account > Yes, disconnect. On iPhone, select Settings & privacy > Settings > Linked accounts > Instagram > Disconnect account, then complete any prompts. These app routes also require the necessary Page access.

Remove Instagram from a business portfolio

To remove Instagram from a Meta business portfolio, first disconnect any linked Facebook Page using the relevant route above. You need full control of the business portfolio to remove the account.

In Meta Business Suite on desktop, open the business portfolio’s Settings > Accounts > Instagram accounts. Select the Instagram account, choose Remove, then select Remove again. This does not delete your Instagram account, but anyone who uses that account’s username and password to log into Meta business tools is removed from the business portfolio and loses access to its Facebook Pages, Instagram accounts and other business assets.

Disconnect apps and websites

To disconnect an outside app or website on your phone, open Instagram’s Profile > Menu. Under Your app and media, select Website permissions > Apps and websites > Active. Select Remove beside the app or website you want to disconnect.

On Instagram’s desktop website, start with More > Settings. Under Your app and media, open Website permissions > Apps and Websites > Active, then select Remove beside the integration. This revokes the selected integration’s access to your nonpublic information.

Manage access to shared accounts

To leave an Instagram account shared with you, switch to that account, select its profile picture, and open Menu. Scroll to the bottom, choose Leave [account name], then select Leave. This ends your invited access to the shared account.

To remove only someone’s inbox or story permission, open your own Instagram profile and select Menu > Shared access. Under Manage, choose Inbox access or Story access, then turn off the toggle beside the person. This removes the selected permission rather than all shared access.

Disconnect Instagram from Meta smart glasses

For Ray-Ban Meta or Oakley Meta glasses, open the Meta AI app and select the bottom right gear icon > Communication. Alternatively, select your glasses and then Communication. Select Instagram > Disconnect Instagram to remove that connection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can two Instagram accounts sync their profile information with each other?

No, you cannot synchronize profile information between two Instagram profiles. Profile syncing works across supported Instagram, Facebook, and Meta Horizon profiles.

Does removing an app erase information it already collected?

No, removing an integration does not erase information it previously collected. Revoking its access does not undo that earlier collection.

Can you return to an Instagram account after leaving Shared access?

Yes, but you need another invitation to return. Your previous invitation does not restore access after you leave.

Does disconnecting Meta glasses remove Stories you already shared?

No, previously shared Stories remain after you disconnect Instagram from the Meta AI companion app. This applies to both Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta glasses.

Can disconnecting a Facebook Page affect Meta Verified?

Yes, disconnecting a Page can affect a Meta Verified subscription in some cases. If you have a subscription, consider that possible effect before disconnecting.

Is Instagram Shared access available to every account?

No, Shared access is available to eligible non-teen accounts. You may not have its controls even if you can manage other account connections.
