Roblox Voice Chat can look missing even when your microphone works. Access depends on an age check, a supported region, and an experience that supports Voice Chat. Start with the fastest path, then fix the device or console setting that blocks your mic.
Turn on Voice Chat the fastest way
Start with Roblox's main Voice Chat flow.
- 1.Log in to Roblox and open Settings.
- 2.Go to Account Info.
- 3.Under Age Group, select Continue with selfie, or under your birthday and age group select Continue with ID.
- 4.Finish the age check prompts and wait for the result.
- 5.Open a Roblox experience that supports Voice Chat, then select the headphone icon or use the in-experience Voice Chat toggle.
Check Roblox requirements first
Roblox Voice Chat works for age-checked users who are 13 or older, in supported regions, inside experiences that support Voice Chat. It works on Desktop, Mobile, VR, PlayStation, and Xbox.
Your account needs Roblox facial age estimation or Roblox ID verification before Voice Chat access becomes available. Phone verification alone does not unlock Voice Chat.
Once your account qualifies, connect inside the Roblox experience. Select the headphone icon, or open the in-experience settings and switch Voice Chat from Disconnected to Connected.
Use selfie age estimation
Use this method when Roblox offers facial age estimation on your account. The check estimates your age and places the account in one of Roblox's age groups: 5-8, 9-12, 13-15, 16-17, 18-20, or 21+. Voice Chat becomes available only if the result is 13 or older and the other requirements are met.
Log in to Roblox, open Settings, and go to Account Info.
Under Age Group, choose Continue with selfie.
Follow the selfie or video prompts until the age check is complete.
After your account is in an eligible 13+ age group, join an experience that supports Voice Chat and connect with the headphone icon or the in-experience Voice Chat toggle.
Find the missing headphone icon
The most common cause is an experience that does not support Voice Chat or an account that has not completed the required age check.
Open a different Roblox experience that supports Voice Chat.
Look for the headphone icon inside the experience and select it to connect.
If the icon is not there, open the in-experience settings and use the Voice Chat toggle instead.
If neither control appears after you finish ID verification or facial age estimation, Roblox says the feature may not be available in your region.
On PlayStation, connect to Voice from in-experience settings.
Finish Roblox ID verification
Log in to your Roblox account and open Settings.
Go to Account Info.
Underneath your birthday and age group, click Continue with ID.
Select Continue and allow camera access.
Scan your government-issued photo ID, capture a photo, then return to the original Roblox session and wait for the pass or fail result.
Once the check passes, open a Roblox experience that supports Voice Chat and connect from the headphone icon or the in-experience Voice Chat toggle.
Keep the original Roblox tab or app session open until the result comes back.
Fix a muted Roblox microphone
This fixes the case where you joined Voice Chat but other players cannot hear you.
Enter a Voice Chat-enabled Roblox experience.
Find the microphone icon on the upper left side of the screen.
Tap the microphone icon once to unmute it.
When the red slash is gone and the microphone icon base is solid, your Roblox mic is unmuted.
Allow microphone access on your device
Use this method when Roblox connects to Voice Chat but your device blocks microphone input. The exact path depends on the device you use.
On Windows 11, open Start, go to Settings, choose Privacy & security, then open Microphone. Turn on Microphone access, turn on Let apps access your microphone, and for desktop Roblox sessions turn on Let desktop apps access your microphone.
On Mac, open the Apple menu, go to System Settings, choose Privacy & Security, then select Microphone. Turn microphone access on for Roblox or the browser or app you use for Roblox.
On iPhone or iPad, open Settings, go to Privacy & Security, then tap Microphone. Turn access on for Roblox; Roblox appears in the list after it requests microphone access.
On Android, open Settings, go to Apps, choose Roblox, then open Permissions and Microphone. Choose Allow only while using the app, Ask every time, or another available allow option.
Review console and family settings
On PlayStation 5, set up the mic from Settings, then Sound, then Microphone. Choose Input Device and use Adjust Microphone Level, then press the controller mute button to unmute your own mic.
On PlayStation 4, open Settings, then Devices, then Audio Devices, and select Adjust Microphone Level. The input volume bar moves when the microphone is working.
When game voice chat audio is muted on PlayStation, press the PS button, open Sound, and make sure Mute Game Voice Chat is not enabled.
On Xbox, Roblox supports Xbox Live Party Chat with Xbox Live friends. That is separate from Roblox in-experience Voice Chat.
For Xbox family accounts that block access, the family organizer can open All Settings, then Account, then Family, choose the child account, and go to Privacy & Online Safety, Xbox Live privacy, View Details & Customize, and Communication & multiplayer. Set You can join multiplayer experiences to Allow, then go to Experience Content and set You can see and share content to Everybody.
For Roblox Select users ages 13 to 15, a linked parental control account can turn on in-game Voice Chat; Voice Chat is not available for users ages 9 to 12.
If console settings are correct and Voice Chat still does not work, return to Roblox and confirm the account is age-checked, the region is supported, and the experience supports Voice Chat.
Skip old Voice Chat advice
Open Roblox and ignore instructions that rely on phone verification alone.
Do not use the old account-level Privacy path labeled Use microphone to chat with voice as the current setup method.
Complete Continue with selfie or Continue with ID from Settings and Account Info.
Join a supported experience and connect through the headphone icon or the in-experience Voice Chat toggle.
The reliable order is eligibility first, microphone permission second, and the in-experience connection last.
