Getting your new Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+ set up with all your old stuff is the first step to enjoying that gorgeous, large screen. Whether you're moving from an older tablet, a different Android phone, or even an iPhone, Samsung's tools make the process pretty straightforward.

Start with Samsung Smart Switch

The absolute easiest way to move your data is with Samsung's own Smart Switch app. It's pre-installed on your Tab S10+. You can find it by going to Settings > Accounts and backup > Bring data from old device. This will launch Smart Switch and guide you through the process.

You'll have three connection options: Wireless, Cable, or from an SD card or USB drive. For most people, wireless is the most convenient. Just make sure both devices are plugged in and on the same Wi-Fi network.

Connect Your Old Device Wirelessly

If you're transferring from another Android device, you'll need the Smart Switch app on that device too. You can download it from the Google Play Store or Galaxy Store. Open the app on your old device, select Send data, and choose Wireless.

On your new Tab S10+, select Receive data and then Android. The two devices will search for each other. Once connected, you can pick exactly what to transfer: apps, contacts, messages, call logs, photos, videos, documents, and even some device settings.

Use a Cable for a Faster Transfer

If you have a lot of data, especially high-resolution photos and videos, using a cable is much faster. You'll need a USB cable to connect the two devices directly. For connecting two USB-C devices, a simple USB-C to USB-C cable works perfectly.

Smart Switch will automatically detect the cable connection. I've found this method is the most reliable for transferring large amounts of data without worrying about Wi-Fi stability or battery life during the process.

Moving Data from an iPhone or iPad

Smart Switch handles iOS devices well. On your Tab S10+, open Smart Switch and select iPhone/iPad as your source device. You then have a choice: transfer directly via a cable or from an iCloud backup.

For a cable transfer, you'll need a Lightning to USB-C cable. Connect your iPhone to the tablet, and Smart Switch will walk you through granting permissions on the iPhone. To use iCloud, just sign into your Apple ID within the Smart Switch app on your tablet and choose the backup you want to restore from.

It's important to know that while your photos, contacts, calendars, and messages will come over, your iOS apps will not. You'll need to download the Android versions from the Google Play Store afterward.

Restore from a Samsung Cloud Backup

If your previous device was a Samsung and you used Samsung Cloud, you can restore your backup during the initial setup of your Tab S10+ or later. When you sign into your Samsung account, you'll be prompted to restore your data and settings.

You can also do this manually anytime by going to Settings > Accounts and backup > Restore data. Choose your Samsung account and select the backup you want to use.

Let Google Sync Do the Work

A lot of your core information is probably already tied to your Google account. When you sign into your Google account on your new tablet, things like your contacts, calendar events, Gmail, and Chrome bookmarks will sync automatically.

You can check what's syncing by going to Settings > Accounts and backup > Manage accounts, selecting your Google account, and tapping Sync account. This is a great way to ensure your essential data is always backed up and ready to go on any new Android device.

Transferring App-Specific Data Like WhatsApp

For apps that store data locally, you'll need to use their built-in transfer tools. WhatsApp has a great one. On your old phone, open WhatsApp, go to Settings > Chats > Chat transfer, and follow the prompts to generate a QR code.

On your Tab S10+, install WhatsApp, and when prompted, scan the QR code from your old device to move your chat history over. For other apps and games, check their settings for a backup or transfer option. Many games save progress to Google Play Games automatically.

Finishing Up on Your Old Device

After you've confirmed all your data is safely on your new Tab S10+, it's a good idea to wipe your old device. On most Android phones, you can do this by going to Settings > General management > Reset > Factory data reset. For iPhones, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone.

This protects your personal information before you sell, trade in, or recycle your old gadget. With your data moved over, you're all set to explore everything your new tablet can do, from multitasking in DeX mode to using the S Pen for notes and drawings.
