Fix Discord phone verification by correcting your country code, using an eligible mobile number, waiting 24 to 48 hours for a timeout error, or unlinking your number from another account. If Discord accepts the number but your code never arrives, check your SMS inbox, message filters, and cellular service.

Use the error to choose your next step. A rejected number needs a number or account fix, a missing code needs SMS checks, and a frozen verification screen needs app troubleshooting.

The short version

  • Number eligibility: Use a mobile number you control that receives SMS and is not a VoIP, burner, or landline number.
  • Timeout errors: Wait 24 to 48 hours before retrying after a timeout or recently used number error.
  • Account conflicts: Remove your number from its previous Discord account and allow the reuse waiting period.
  • Missing codes: Check filtered messages and confirm that your cellular line can receive ordinary texts.
  • Persistent failures: Contact Discord Support if number rejection, missing codes, or a CAPTCHA still prevents verification.

Correct the country code and phone number

Select the country code that matches your phone number, then reenter the number using that country’s numbering format. Check the digits before submitting it again. Start here when Discord rejects your entry.

Use a mobile number you control that can receive SMS and is not attached to another Discord account. Discord rejects VoIP, burner, and landline numbers, so replace one of those with an eligible mobile number.

If an eligible number is still rejected, check the error message. A timeout calls for waiting, while an existing account association calls for removing the number from the account holding it. Reinstalling Discord does not bypass either restriction.

Wait for a verification timeout to end

For a Rate Limit or Recently Used error, Discord says to wait 24 to 48 hours before attempting phone verification again. Pause your attempts for that interval, then return to the verification screen. Switching clients does not bypass the timeout.

A number removed from another account also has a reuse waiting period, but Discord does not specify its duration. Do not treat 24 to 48 hours as a guaranteed deadline for every unlinked number. If the number remains unavailable after waiting, contact Discord Support.

Complete the required verification flow

On the account verification screen, select Start Verification, enter your eligible mobile number, and select Next. Enter the code delivered by SMS and complete any CAPTCHA presented. Contact Discord Support if a CAPTCHA prevents you from finishing.

If you can access account settings on desktop or in a desktop browser, select the cogwheel beside your username. Open User Settings > My Account, find Phone Number, and select Add. Choose the correct country code, enter your number, and select Send.

Enter the six-digit SMS code, then enter your account password and select Confirm. If the message does not arrive, check SMS reception and filtering. If Discord rejects your number before sending a code, check its eligibility, timeout status, or connection to another account.

Remove the number from another account

Sign into the Discord account that currently holds your number. On desktop or in a desktop browser, open User Settings > My Account and select Remove beside the number. Enter that account’s password, then select Remove again.

On mobile, tap your avatar, select the cogwheel, and open Settings > Account > Phone > Remove Phone Number. Allow the reuse waiting period before adding the number to your intended account. Removing it does not guarantee immediate availability.

If you cannot remove the number yourself, contact Discord Support using the email associated with the account holding it and request removal. Discord says it cannot disclose that account’s email or remove the number if you do not remember the associated email. Having access to the phone number alone does not satisfy that requirement.

Recover an accidental phone number account

If you accidentally created an account with your phone number, recover that account before unlinking the number. In desktop Chrome, open More > New Incognito window, then open Discord’s login page. Incognito keeps this account session separate without bypassing verification or rate limits.

Enter your phone number and select Forgot your password?. Enter the SMS reset code, choose a password, and select Change Password. Sign into that account using the phone number.

Open User Settings and select Add to attach an unused email address, then verify that email. Select Remove for the phone number and allow the reuse waiting period before adding it to your intended account. This recovery route requires receiving the password reset SMS.

Find the code and restore SMS reception

Open your messaging app and check the inbox directly, even if you received no notification. Alerts can be silenced while the message itself is already present. If ordinary SMS messages also fail to arrive, address cellular reception before requesting another Discord code.

On Android, turn off Airplane mode if it is enabled, check your cellular signal, and confirm that your physical SIM is seated correctly. Make sure your carrier plan supports incoming SMS and has sufficient balance. Update Google Messages if it is outdated using the Google Play update steps below.

Open Settings > Apps > Default apps > SMS app, select your intended messaging app, and check its inbox. Android manufacturers can use different settings layouts. In Google Messages, open your profile photo or icon, select More options, and open Spam & blocked. Inspect the relevant conversation, then select Unblock if the legitimate sender is blocked.

To restore Google Messages alerts, open your profile icon > Messages settings > Notifications and turn on Incoming messages. This changes notifications, not carrier delivery. On Galaxy phones using Samsung Messages, open More options > Settings > Block numbers and spam > Block numbers and remove the legitimate sender from the block list.

On iPhone, open Settings > Cellular and make sure the line corresponding to the number entered in Discord is selected and turned on. Check this particularly carefully if you use multiple SIMs. Then inspect your message filters for an already-delivered code.

In iOS 26, open Messages > Filters > Unknown Senders and look for the verification SMS. In iOS 27, use the Filter button > Unknown Senders. Open a legitimate sender’s message and select Mark as Known to move it into the main conversation list.

Also inspect Transactions and Promotions if text filtering is enabled. For a message incorrectly classified as spam on iOS 26 or later, open Messages > Filter > Spam, select the message, choose Not Spam, and then choose the option that moves it back to your conversation list. A code found in these folders has already reached your phone.

If security-code texts remain missing, ask your carrier whether an account or sender-specific block is preventing them. T-Mobile directs customers with missing security-code messages to Customer Care for this check. For broader call and text failures on a physical-SIM Galaxy phone, inspect the SIM for damage and ask your carrier to test or replace it.

Repair a stuck verification screen

If the verification interface freezes or fails to load, completely close Discord, including remaining processes in Task Manager on Windows. Wait 30 seconds, reopen Discord, and return to verification. Use these repairs for an interface problem; they do not resolve number eligibility or carrier SMS delivery.

On Android, open Google Play Store, select your profile icon, then open Manage apps & device > Updates available > See details. Select Update beside Discord. You can use the same procedure to update Google Messages if you are troubleshooting SMS reception.

On iPhone or iPad, open App Store and select the My Account button or your profile photo. Open App Updates and select Update beside Discord. Return to the verification screen after updating.

Try signing into the same account in a supported desktop browser, then use its verification prompt or My Account settings. On a phone, use the Discord app because Discord does not support mobile browsers. Switching clients can help isolate an interface problem, but number restrictions still apply.

If the screen fails to load over Wi-Fi, try another available connection, such as cellular data. You can also fix a weak Wi-Fi signal if the connection itself is unreliable. Changing your Internet connection does not repair cellular SMS delivery.

On Galaxy, clear a malfunctioning Discord app’s cache through Settings > Apps > Discord > Storage > Clear cache. If you need a full local reset, select Clear data > Delete. Clearing data removes local app settings and requires signing in again.

If installation or update corruption persists, get a fresh copy from Discord’s official download page. Choose the download or app store option for your device. Reinstallation addresses app problems and does not clear a required account verification challenge.

Contact Discord for persistent failures

Contact Support if an eligible number remains rejected, codes are still missing after SMS checks, or a CAPTCHA prevents completion. Open the Discord Support portal and select Sign in. Help Center credentials are separate from your Discord app credentials, so use Sign Up and activate the Support account through email if needed.

Select Submit a request > Help & Support and complete the applicable fields, including Subject and Description. Describe the exact error and the steps you already completed. You can take a screenshot of the error, attach it to the request, and select Submit.

Keep your request focused on number rejection, missing SMS, CAPTCHA failure, or the existing account association. When Discord requires phone verification, its verification guide asks for a valid mobile phone number that is not attached to another Discord account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can an authenticator code replace Discord phone verification?

You can use an authenticator code for an MFA login prompt if you previously enrolled an authenticator app. Enter its current code and select Confirm. This completes the login challenge but does not verify your phone number for an account or server requirement.

What if the missing text is an MFA login code?

You can use a saved backup code at the authentication prompt by selecting Verify with something else > Use a backup code. Enter an unused eight-digit backup code and select Confirm. This option requires a code you saved previously and applies to MFA login.

Why does only one Discord server require my phone number?

You encounter a phone requirement when a server uses the Highest verification level. Its administrator can choose a lower level if appropriate. That change affects the server’s requirement and cannot clear a separate Discord account verification challenge.

How do I finish verification if Discord only requires my email?

On desktop, open User Settings > My Account and select Resend Verification Email, then complete the emailed instructions. On mobile, open Account and select the Verify banner. This resolves an email requirement, including at lower server verification levels, but does not replace explicitly required phone verification.

Why does the code not appear in T-Mobile DIGITS?

Check the SMS inbox on the device using your primary SIM. T-Mobile says most short-code messages may not appear in DIGITS companion apps or paired lines, and short-code messages are unavailable while overseas. Discord’s sender type can vary, so these limitations apply when your message uses a short code.

Can I read the verification text on my Mac or iPad?

You can forward an already-delivered text using the same Apple Account on both devices. On iPhone, open Settings > Apps > Messages > Text Message Forwarding and enable your other device; Messages in iCloud already includes forwarding. Your iPhone must remain on, connected, and able to receive messages, so forwarding does not fix failed SMS delivery.
