To fix a Teams meeting link not showing in Outlook, turn on Teams meeting for the event and send the invitation from an eligible Microsoft 365 Business Exchange calendar. In new Outlook and Outlook on the web, saving the event as a draft does not generate join details. If the Teams control itself is missing, check your calendar account, then follow the repair steps for your Outlook version.

The short version

  • Send the invitation: New Outlook and Outlook on the web add Teams join details after you send the event.
  • Check the account: Personal and POP/IMAP accounts cannot use the Outlook Teams scheduling integration.
  • Match the repair: New Outlook uses built-in integration, while classic Outlook for Windows uses the Teams meeting add-in.
  • Use another route: You can recover a meeting link in Teams or join directly from its calendar.

Enable Teams and send the invitation

In new Outlook for Windows or Outlook on the web, open Calendar > New event and turn on Teams meeting. Add attendees and meeting details, then select Send. Join details appear after sending; Save as draft does not generate them.

In classic Outlook for Windows, including Microsoft 365 and Outlook 2024, open Calendar > Home > New Meeting > Teams Meeting. Complete the invitation and select Send. This route requires an eligible account and a working Teams add-in.

On current Outlook for Mac with an eligible Microsoft 365 account, turn on Teams meeting while composing the meeting, then send the invitation. Teams details are added when you send it. In Outlook for iOS or Android with an eligible work or school account, open Calendar > New Event, turn on Teams Meeting, add the details and attendees, then tap Save.

Choose an eligible calendar or use Teams personal

Outlook’s Teams scheduling integration requires an eligible Microsoft 365 Business Exchange calendar. Personal accounts and POP/IMAP accounts, including Gmail, Yahoo, and iCloud POP/IMAP calendars, cannot use that integration. If you have an eligible calendar, schedule the meeting from that calendar.

For a personal Microsoft account, including Microsoft 365 Personal or Family, create the meeting in Teams personal. On desktop or the web, open Meet > Schedule a Meeting, or Calendar > New Meeting. Add the details, select Save, then open the meeting and select Share Link or Copy invite.

Teams personal on mobile provides a separate scheduling route. Open Meet > Schedule, complete the details, select Submit, then select Copy meeting link. Use this route when you need to schedule with your personal account.

Find the meeting URL or join through Teams

Check the invitation for a full meeting URL before changing any settings. Teams invitations created after the January 2026 format rollout display that URL instead of the older Join meeting now text. Select the URL to join.

If you need to enter the meeting now, open Teams, select Calendar, open the meeting, and select Join. For an active meeting, you can also open its chat or channel and select Join. These routes work in current Teams on desktop and mobile.

A meeting ID and passcode give you another way to join a Teams meeting. On Teams desktop with an Exchange Online mailbox, open Calendar, select the Meet now dropdown, then choose Join with an ID # and enter the credentials. On mobile, open Calendar > More > Join with meeting ID and enter the credentials.

Restart Teams and Outlook in the right order

For new Outlook for Windows, use the current Teams desktop client and sign in to Teams and Outlook with the same work or school account. Close Outlook, right-click the Teams icon in the system tray, and select Quit Teams. Start Teams and sign in, then start Outlook and try creating the meeting again.

New Outlook uses built-in Teams integration without a separately installed COM add-in. If you use classic Outlook for Windows, sign out of Teams and restart it, then close and restart Outlook before trying another meeting. Continue with the COM add-in checks below if the classic Outlook restart does not help.

If either classic Outlook or Teams is configured to run as an administrator, right-click its shortcut and open Properties > Compatibility. Where those shortcut settings are available, uncheck Run this program as an administrator for each app. Relaunch Teams first, then Outlook.

Restore the add-in in classic Outlook

In classic Outlook for Windows, open File > Options > Add-ins. Under Manage, select COM Add-ins, then select Go…. Check Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office, select OK, and restart Outlook.

If the add-in has become disabled in classic Outlook for Microsoft 365, return to File > Options > Add-ins. Under Manage, select Disabled items > Go, select the Teams entry, and select Enable. Restart Outlook before creating another invitation.

For an add-in that Outlook repeatedly disables, open File > Manage COM Add-ins and expand Options for Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office. Select Do not monitor this add-in for the next 30 days, or select Always enable this add-in if that is the available choice for its disablement state. Select Apply > Close.

Update Teams and classic Outlook

When Teams desktop offers an update, select Update > Update and restart Teams. Reopen Teams if necessary. Teams also updates automatically while idle.

In classic Outlook for Microsoft 365 or Outlook 2024 on Windows, open File > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now. Select Enable Updates first if updates need enabling. If the update controls are absent, contact the administrator managing Office updates.

Make Teams the automatic meeting provider

For an eligible Microsoft 365 account in new Outlook for Windows or Outlook on the web, open Calendar > Calendar settings > Events and invitations. Select Add online meeting to all meetings, then select Microsoft Teams under Choose a meeting provider. Check the account shown under These settings are applied at the account level:, then select Save.

In subscription classic Outlook for Windows, open File > Options > Calendar. Under Calendar options, select the meeting provider button next to Add online meeting to all meetings. Select the Add online meeting to all meetings checkbox, choose the account under Apply to this account, select Microsoft Teams, then select OK. Availability differs in government environments; you can also create the meeting in Teams using the steps below.

For subscription Outlook on Mac, open Outlook Preferences > Calendar > Configure Providers. Select Add online meeting to all meetings, choose the account and Microsoft Teams, then select Save. For automatic online meetings, add attendees and keep the event’s duration to 24 hours or less.

If Outlook scheduling still fails, create the meeting in the current Teams work or school desktop app. Open Calendar > New, add the details and attendees, turn on Teams meeting, and select Save. You can then copy its link into Outlook.

To recover an existing meeting’s link, open the event in Teams and select Share > Copy join link. Paste the copied link into an Outlook invitation or email. You can use the same sharing route for the meeting you just created in Teams.

Ask IT to check licensing and add-in conflicts

If classic Outlook for Windows still cannot create Teams meetings with your commercial account, ask IT to verify your assigned Teams license and eligible Microsoft 365 subscription. Microsoft also recommends avoiding multiple Office versions and temporarily disabling conflicting Outlook add-ins during diagnosis. These checks address account eligibility and installation conflicts that enabling the Teams add-in alone may not resolve.
