X launched iOS widgets for iPhone and iPad users in mid-December 2025, delivering home screen and lock screen access to news, notifications, and AI features. The rollout arrives nearly five years after Apple first teased Twitter widgets at WWDC 2020 during its iOS 14 preview.

The home screen offers a single "X News Highlights" widget displaying trending platform headlines. Users can tap any headline to jump directly into the X app for full details. The widget comes in small, medium, and large sizes for flexible home screen layouts.

Lock screen widgets provide more functionality with four distinct options. X Notifications shows unread alert counts while X Messages displays pending direct messages in the platform's chat feature. Two dedicated Grok AI widgets offer direct chat access and voice interaction shortcuts.

All lock screen widgets are available in both compact and expanded formats. The AI widgets highlight X's continued integration of artificial intelligence tools following Elon Musk's acquisition and platform rebranding from Twitter.

X announced the feature rollout in a platform post stating "X widgets on iOS are here...access top news, shortcuts, and notifications from your home or lock screen." The company is reportedly developing a redesigned notifications page for iOS with a more visual layout, though X's head of product Nikita Bier clarified that the redesign remains under development.

The widget launch marks X's entry into Apple's widget ecosystem after years of anticipation. Since the original 2020 teaser, the platform underwent leadership changes from Jack Dorsey to Parag Agrawal before Musk's acquisition and complete product overhaul.
